Primary Purpose:

Generates revenue for KPAC by providing prompt, accurate concession service and a welcoming guest experience. Takes and fulfills concession orders, prepares end-of-shift sales reports and deposits, provides information to patrons, and supports event operations as assigned.

 

Supervision:

Reports directly to the supervisor on duty, generally the Assistant General Manager, General Manager, or designee. This position does not have regular formal supervisory authority.

When trained and specifically designated as Event Lead or Manager on Duty, including during a shift, the employee may provide functional direction to part-time employees and volunteers, coordinate routine event operations, and make time-sensitive operational decisions within KPAC policies and established procedures. Matters involving emergencies, patron removal, contract disputes, refunds or fee waivers, significant cash discrepancies, event cancellation, or policy exceptions must be escalated to KPAC management.

 

Description of Work:

Essential Functions

• Sets up, stocks, opens, and prepares concession areas for service during performances and

events.

• Accepts and processes concession orders using the point-of-sale system and accurately

handles cash and electronic payments.

• Prepares and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, ice, cut fruit and garnishes,

and prepackaged food to KPAC guests and patrons.

• Checks identification and verifies legal drinking age before serving alcohol. Follows

KPAC responsible alcohol-service procedures and refuses or stops service when required.

• Follows KPAC and St. Louis County food-safety and sanitation requirements, including

proper handwashing, illness reporting, safe use of gloves, tongs, and ice scoops, and

prevention of bare-hand contact with cut limes and other ready-to-eat foods.

• Maintains stock, rotates inventory, records low-stock items, and recommends product

orders.

• Runs required sales reports, reconciles assigned cash and electronic payments, prepares

deposits, and places deposits and cash drawers in secured storage.

• Documents voids, refunds, discounts, tips, product waste, and cash or inventory

discrepancies as required.

• Maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of concession equipment, food-contact surfaces,

counters, storage areas, and surrounding guest areas.

• Answers phones and provides accurate information to patrons concerning the performing

arts center and its events.

• When assigned as Event Lead or Manager on Duty, serves as an on-site operational

contact, coordinates staff and volunteers, monitors guest flow and public areas, enforces

KPAC policies, addresses routine operational concerns, and contacts management or

emergency services when necessary.

• Monitors assigned areas for spills, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, policy

violations, or guest-service concerns and takes appropriate action within established

procedures.

• Completes incident, accident, damage, and event reports accurately and promptly.
• Closes, cleans, secures, and resets concession areas at the conclusion of performances and

events.

• Works cooperatively with box office, front-of-house, technical, custodial, security,

parking, and other event staff to provide a high-quality guest experience.

• Performs other related duties as assigned for the safe and effective operation of KPAC.

 

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required:

• Ability to provide courteous customer service and communicate effectively with patrons, coworkers, renters, vendors, and volunteers.
• Ability to operate point-of-sale and computer equipment, accurately handle money, econcile a cash drawer, and complete required reports.
• Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and make routine operational decisions

in a busy public-event environment.

• Ability to understand and follow event plans, emergency procedures, food-safety

requirements, alcohol-service rules, and KPAC policies.

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must complete KPAC-required responsible alcohol-service training, currently S.M.A.R.T., before serving alcohol and maintain any required certification.
• Must comply with St. Louis County Hepatitis A immunization requirements for food handlers, including timely documentation of vaccination or immunity or an approved exemption handled through the City's established Human Resources process.
• Must complete assigned KPAC food-safety, cash-control, emergency-response, and event-operations training. Event Lead or Manager-on-Duty assignments require specific management designation.
• Must be available for a variable schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and shifts that extend because of event needs.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to read computer screens, identification, product labels, event documents, and reports.
2. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the assigned shift.
3. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, restock inventory, and push or pull stocked concession carts.
4. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, grasp, climb stairs, and perform repetitive hand motions.
5. Ability to safely use concession equipment, utensils, and approved cleaning and sanitizing products.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor performing arts center and occasionally in outdoor event areas. Working conditions may include crowds, noise, low-light areas, alcohol service, food and beverage handling, cleaning products, and changing event demands.

The employee may be reassigned among concession and event-support responsibilities during a shift based on operational needs and within the employee's training.
