Design Engineer

A growing advanced manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Tooling Design Engineer to support new product development, manufacturing operations, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position plays a critical role in designing and developing tooling, fixtures, and gauges that drive safety, quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain tooling, fixtures, and gauges for research and development, new product launches, and manufacturing operations. Create and maintain tooling records, drawings, specifications, and design documentation. Evaluate customer and production requirements to determine manufacturability and tooling needs. Analyze technical drawings and blueprints to resolve tooling design challenges. Develop tooling prints, models, and bills of materials using 3D CAD software. Create and maintain standard work instructions, technical documentation, and lessons‑learned records to improve designs and reduce waste. Participate in and support product realization activities, including APQP processes, risk assessments, test plans, and verification activities. Collaborate with Project Managers to establish tooling specifications and project requirements. Work closely with tool room personnel to ensure designs can be manufactured safely, efficiently, and cost‑effectively. Review and validate supplier tooling designs and authorize release for production when appropriate. Coordinate design reviews and engineering documentation with project management and manufacturing teams. Partner with Quality teams to validate tooling and support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities. Manage tooling development projects from order receipt through first production run. Identify opportunities to improve tooling safety, ergonomics, efficiency, and process consistency through Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies. Research new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to support customer and business objectives. Provide regular project updates and maintain effective communication with all stakeholders. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in product, process, manufacturing, or tooling engineering. Minimum of 5 years of 3D CAD modeling experience. Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling software. Ability to interpret and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field. Experience working within AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality systems. Knowledge of APQP, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies. Experience supporting new product development and manufacturing process improvements.
