Certified Medical AssistantHot JobCommunity Health Improvement Center - Decatur, ILOverviewSalary Range $16.50 - $22.00 Hourly Position Type Full Time Education Level Certification Category Health CareDescriptionThe Certified Medical Assistant assists providers and nurses with patient care, initiates patient flow, maintains the environmental areas of the clinic and examination rooms and assists with telephoning and filing.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneQualificationsDuties/Responsibilities:Assist patients to exam roomsObtains vital signsObtains, evaluates, and records patient history as per protocolsAdmits patients, takes height, weight, blood pressure and other measurements as applicableApplies principles of aseptic technique and infection controlAssists with examinations, procedures and treatmentsAssists patients to examination rooms, lab and restroomsCollects and processes specimensComplies with established risk management and safety proceduresComplies with quality assurance practicesMaintains examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipmentMaintains medication and immunization recordsMakes appointments and schedules referrals as directedMakes copies and faxes documents as requestedMakes correct entries in patient charts and checks appointment datesManages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the healthcare team in order to make decisions about treatment and attain health goalsPerforms CLIA-waived testsAdministers meds as under licensePerforms electrocardiography and respiratory testingPerforms phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncturePerforms quality assurance on glucometersPractices Standard Precautions, including hand washing and disposal of bio-hazardous materialsPrepares and administers oral and parenteral medicationsPrepares patient for examinations, procedures and treatments; obtains any authorizations for procedure and/or treatment, if requiredReceives, organizes, prioritizes, stores and maintains transmittable information utilizing electronic technologyRecognizes and responds to emergenciesServes as "communication liaison" between the provider and patientPerforms other duties of a MA as requiredRestocks and straightens exam roomsCompetencies:Ability to follow established procedures and maintain high level of organizationAbility to learn reasonably quicklyAbility to maintain confidentialityAbility to multi-taskAbility to relate to persons of various economic levels and culturesAbility to remain relaxed and calm under stressful situationsAbility to speak and write fluently in English; Spanish desirableAbility to work independently and cooperativelyAbove average level of interest in working with people and dataCooperative and non-competitive attitude with ability to take initiativeDemonstrates integrity, professionalism and superior customer service skills while working in a fast-paced, moderately stressful environmentHigh proficiency in nursing procedures and use of medical equipment appropriate to the jobPatient and staff friendly with excellent communication skillsProficiency in use of telephone system, computer, and basic office equipmentWorking knowledge of adult and/or pediatric nursing and medicationsEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or equivalentCPR certifiedSuccessful completion of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) requiredTraining verification as a MA requiredSuccessful completion of testing preferredTwo (2) years of successful experience in a clinical setting preferredPhysical Requirements:Ability to stand for extended periods of time, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to deliver medical services and use equipment.Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues, contagious diseases and/or other potentially hazardous materialsFine motor coordination sufficient to perform manipulative skillsModerate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.)
