Job Overview

Infusion Pharmacy Technician – Infusion Pharmacy Services at West Chester Hospital, UC Health. Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Shift varies. $7,500 sign‑on bonus.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum high‑school diploma or GED equivalent. Preferred: Associate degree.

• Current pharmacy technician registration by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy.
• Current certified technician certificate (approved by Ohio BOP).
• CSPT certification required within one year of hire/transfer.
• Continual registration and certification throughout employment.

Experience: Minimum 3 years equivalent experience. Preferred 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Engage in population‑appropriate communication.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
• Provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding treatment.
• Involve family/guardian in assessment, initial treatment and continuing care.
• Identify physical limitations of patient and deploy interventions when necessary.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
• Interpret population‑related data and plan care appropriately.
• Identify and respond to different needs related to unique psychological or religious/cultural norms, and perform treatments, administer medication or operate equipment safely.
• Recognize and respond to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
• Procure and distribute medication orders per prescriber request, pharmacist request, or prearranged assignment.
• Accept new written, faxed or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or prescriber's agent.
• Enter information into and retrieve information from a database or patient profile.
• Prepare and affix medication labels.
• Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist.
• Prepare non‑sterile compounds.
• Replenish medications in automated dispensing cabinets, medication carts, medication kits, emergency drug containers and floor stock areas accurately.
• Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
• Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule.
• Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
• Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations.
• Rotate stock to ensure use before expiration.
• Identify and replace outdated and unusable medications.
• Restock medication and IV dispensing areas accurately within specified time periods.
• Repackage bulk medications in unit‑dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques.
• Identify opportunities and lead in area of expertise with little supervision.
• Assist pharmacy leadership in development of materials and orientation of new associates.
• Picks up orders, requisitions, and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
• Enter medication orders into pharmacy computer system accurately (if applicable).
• Enter charges and credits for patient medications accurately.
• Generate reports, pick lists, and labels as required.
• Answer the telephone, identifying self and department; direct calls to appropriate personnel.
• Answer requests at the window/door and make stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested.
• Organize and prioritize work assignments.
• Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately; file documentation in appropriate locations.
• Demonstrate good oral and written communication.
• Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well‑organized; keep equipment clean.
• Complete and document all assigned medication storage area inspections at least monthly; identify and replace outdated and unusable medications.
• Collect data, conduct quality monitors, and complete documentation as assigned.
• Organize and maintain responsibility for an identified quality improvement project for the department.
• Present annual update for project responsibilities.
• Maintain neat, professional, and well‑groomed appearance; observe pharmacy dress code; wear identification badge at all times.
• Perform work within specified time frames; adapt positively to frequent interruptions and changes in workload and/or schedule.
• Work cooperatively with all staff members; voice concerns and suggestions to appropriate persons in a positive manner.
• Foster a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members; assist coworkers in tasks, as time permits.
• Seek opportunities to continue to advance pharmacy technician practice.
• Complete special projects and have a leadership role in assigned committees.
• Demonstrate competency in all areas of pharmacy within the hospital.
• Seek out opportunities to decrease cost in the department.

Salary

Expected starting salary range: $25.04/hr. – $33.19/hr. Actual pay depends on factors such as experience, skills, alignment with internal candidates, marketplace factors, and other requirements.
