Senior Accountant

Position: Senior Accountant Work Schedule: Full-time, 12-months/year Start Date: ASAP Pay: $36.86 - 49.77 dependent on qualifications and based on the Non-Affiliated Handbook Benefits: Medical, Dental, Life and other benefits in accordance with the Non-Affiliated Summary of Benefits Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, along with a minimum of three years of professional accounting experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling seven years). Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and school financial management software. Experience with MN school district funding structures and UFARS accounting preferred. Experience with Skyward preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong understanding of federal, state, and school finance regulations. Ability to work independently, prioritize complex tasks, and exercise sound judgment under minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting financial data to non-financial district personnel. Commitment to high accuracy, data integrity, and strict confidentiality. Responsibilities: Assist in overseeing the daily and year-end activities of accounting and payroll. Reconciles bank and investment statements. Investigate any missing entries or discrepancies. Prepare correcting journal entries, as necessary. Communicates with banking and investment firm representatives to obtain additional information, as needed Reconciles balance sheet accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll liabilities. Collaborates and works with employees to correct any discrepancies Prepare journal entries to record building monthly transactions from various district departments (i.e. trips, communications, printing, nutrition amounts, departmental charge backs, etc.). Performs various general ledger activities such as setting up new account codes, creating ad hoc reports, researching financial information, entering journal entries, as needed. Assist with payroll functions. Extracts payments made through the State's SWIFT Program. Code each payment and prepare a cash receipt entry. Matches deposits slips with back up to verify deposits from other departments are coded properly and ready for cash receipt entry. Report sales tax to the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Understand the Accounts Payable process and provide back up as needed. Works with staff and provides training on UFARS and other key financial information. Provides training on financial processes to staff as needed. Works with the staff to provide support during the audit. Prepares, creates and develops codes following the Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS) standards. Creates and submits the Uniform Financial Accounting and Reporting Standards (UFARS) tape to the Minnesota Department of Education. Records and prepares fixed asset reporting, including adding newly acquired assets and recording disposition of assets. Reviews and verifies credit card statements to assure proper receipts are attached for each charge and that sales tax were not charged. Contacts individuals missing statements and reimbursement of sales tax, as needed. Prepare school board financial reports Track and reconcile building and printer leases Other related duties as assigned. #J-18808-Ljbffr
