POSITION SUMMARY

The Network Engineer designs, configures, maintains, and secures network infrastructure across IEI and its affiliated entities. This position supports multi-site operations and Microsoft Azure-connected services, provides advanced Tier 3 troubleshooting, and maintains reliable and secure network environments using Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti UniFi, and Microsoft Azure technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Network Engineering and Administration

1. Engineers, configures, administers, and supports multi-site wired, wireless, firewall, and WAN infrastructure, with primary responsibility for Cisco Meraki and Ubiquiti UniFi network environments.

2. Configures and maintains IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, routing, DHCP, DNS, NAT, Quality of Service (QoS), wireless networks, and related network services.

3. Designs, configures, and troubleshoots site-to-site VPNs, remote-access connectivity, WAN failover, redundancy, and secure connectivity between business locations and cloud-hosted resources.

Azure and Hybrid Network Engineering

4. Administers Microsoft Azure networking components, including virtual networks (VNets), subnets, Network Security Groups (NSGs), route tables, VPN gateways, and hybrid connectivity between Azure and on-premises environments.

5. Troubleshoots complex hybrid connectivity, routing, latency, name-resolution, firewall, and access issues affecting Azure-hosted and business-critical services.

Network Security and Compliance

6. Designs, implements, and maintains network segmentation, firewall policies, logical access boundaries, and secure communication standards in support of Zero Trust, PCI-DSS, and organizational cybersecurity requirements.

7. Maintains network device firmware, secure configurations, configuration backups, and remediation activities in coordination with the IT Director, Managed SOC, and external security partners.

8. Supports cybersecurity assessments, incident response, PCI-DSS evidence collection, segmentation validation, vulnerability remediation, and network-control documentation.

Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Reliability

9. Provides Tier 3 escalation support and independently performs root-cause analysis for complex LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, firewall, and Azure network issues using appropriate diagnostic tools, logs, and packet-level troubleshooting methods.

10. Monitors network availability, bandwidth, latency, device health, and capacity trends; identifies recurring issues and recommends corrective actions before they affect business operations.

Architecture, Projects, and Lifecycle Planning

11. Plans and implements network upgrades, site deployments, migrations, circuit changes, failover testing, equipment replacements, and infrastructure modernization projects.

12. Evaluates network design, capacity, redundancy, and security posture and recommends architectural improvements that support scalability, resiliency, business growth, and operational continuity.

Documentation, Vendor Coordination, and Collaboration

13. Maintains accurate network topology diagrams, IP and VLAN documentation, equipment inventories, configuration standards, change records, technical procedures, and recovery information.

14. Coordinates technical work with internet service providers, telecom vendors, managed service providers, and security partners; validates vendor work and escalates service or technical issues as needed.

15. Works closely with the IT Operations Manager, Business Systems Analyst, Field Technicians, IT leadership, and business stakeholders on network-dependent projects, including VoIP readiness and business-critical system connectivity.

16. Performs other duties as assigned; maintains confidentiality; attends required meetings and training; and maintains awareness and sensitivity to Native American Culture.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Language Skills:

· Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical documentation, network diagrams, procedures, standards, and change records.

· Ability to clearly communicate technical information and network-related issues to IT staff, vendors, management, and nontechnical stakeholders.

Mathematical Skills:

· Ability to understand and apply networking calculations and concepts related to IP addressing, subnetting, bandwidth, routing, capacity, and network performance.

Reasoning Ability:

· Strong analytical and root-cause problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret logs, routing behavior, packet captures, and performance data.

· Ability to identify and troubleshoot complex network issues, evaluate possible solutions, and determine appropriate corrective action.

· Ability to prioritize competing operational issues and project responsibilities with limited supervision in a multi-site environment.

Computer Skills:

· Advanced practical knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPNs, wireless networking, and network segmentation.

· Ability to independently configure, troubleshoot, and validate production network changes within Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti UniFi, and Microsoft Azure environments.

· Ability to maintain accurate technical documentation and protect confidential system credentials, access permissions, network configurations, and security information.

· Ability to work flexible hours and respond to network emergencies or planned maintenance as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

· High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of progressively responsible hands-on network engineering or advanced network administration experience, including experience supporting multi-site production environments OR

· Associate of Arts Degree in related field and 3 years of progressively responsible hands-on network engineering or advanced network administration experience, including experience supporting multi-site production environments OR

· Bachelor's degree in related field and 1 year of progressively responsible hands-on network engineering or advanced network administration experience, including experience supporting multi-site production environments

· Relevant vendor certifications or technical education in networking, cloud infrastructure, or information technology.

· Candidates must be prepared to discuss specific production environments, projects, network changes, and troubleshooting scenarios they personally designed, configured, implemented, or resolved.

Certificates & Licenses:  

Must have valid Washington State Driver License.
