The organization values professionals who are passionate about education, accountability, and student success. Role Description The Accounting Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Akron, OH. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including managing general ledger activities, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings. The Accounting Manager will monitor budgets, analyze variances, and provide financial reports to leadership, supporting data-driven decisions for multiple school locations. Daily responsibilities include overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, reconciling bank and balance sheet accounts, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations relevant to charter schools. The role also involves supervising accounting staff, coordinating with auditors, improving financial processes and controls, and collaborating with school and central office teams to support strategic initiatives and fiscal responsibility. Qualifications Strong general accounting skills, including experience with general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close. Proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support school operations and organizational decision-making. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processes, and cash flow management in a multi-location or multi-entity environment. Knowledge of compliance requirements, internal controls, and audit preparation, ideally within education, nonprofit, or public sector finance. Advanced skills using accounting software and spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and the ability to learn new financial systems quickly. Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a focus on accuracy. Effective communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders and work cross-functionally. Supervisory or team leadership experience in an accounting or finance department. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or other relevant certification is a plus.
