Graduation from an Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department. Out-of-State Applicants: Must have graduated from a Police Academy approved by the Torrance Police Department. Education High School graduate. Certificates/License Must possess a POST Basic Certificate. Valid California Driver's License (prior to appointment date). Age Must be age 21 by the date of filing.How To Apply & Exam ProcessApplications are accepted on a continuous basis. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis, and only those candidates whose training and experience best meet our requirements will be invited to the examination. Examinations will be conducted on a periodic basis depending on the needs of the City and the Department. The background investigation will include job and personal references, arrest records, credit history, use of controlled substances, medical evaluations, a psychological evaluation, and a polygraph. Note for Lateral Applicants: Upon appointment, Officers are placed in our Field Training Program.
