Position summary

The Produce Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing fresh and perishable categories including produce (fruits and vegetables), floral, and dairy. This role owns vendor relationships, pricing, quality standards, and product availability to drive sales, minimize shrink, and ensure freshness and consistency across all Talpa Supermercados store locations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end category performance including sales, margin, shrink, and inventory levels.
• Develop and execute seasonal buying strategies aligned with market conditions and customer demand.
• Identify assortment opportunities to drive growth and improve product mix.

Vendor management & negotiation

• Build and maintain strong relationships with growers, distributors, and fresh suppliers.
• Lead negotiations on pricing, quality, service levels, and delivery terms.
• Evaluate vendor performance and drive continuous improvement.

Planning & execution

• Partner with the CPFR team to align purchasing with demand forecasts and replenishment strategies.
• Ensure product availability while minimizing waste and overstock.
• Coordinate with distribution and store operations to support execution.

Performance & analytics

• Analyze sales trends, margins, shrink, and inventory turnover.
• Monitor KPIs and adjust buying strategies accordingly.
• Support pricing and promotional strategies.

Qualifications & experience

• 2+ years of experience in retail buying, preferably in produce or perishables.
• Strong understanding of fresh supply chain, seasonality, and cost drivers.
• Proven negotiation and vendor management experience.
• Strong analytical skills and experience with retail data.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.

• Strong knowledge of Produce and Fresh pricing strategies.
• Advanced negotiation and supplier relationship management.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups).
• ERP and BI tools experience.
• Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills.
