SCADA Engineer I (Junior Engineer)

Position Overview We are seeking a SCADA Engineer to work with Automation and Integration of Plant SCADA and PPC systems into Renewable Power Generation Plants. The engineer will design, program, install, and test automation systems that integrate multiple sub-systems to meet operational and regulatory needs. They will develop and implement logic for complex custom applications. What You’ll Do Develop SCADA point lists, remote terminal unit (RTU) programs, human‑machine interfaces (HMIs), meter and relay settings, and general calculations. Program, install, troubleshoot, test, and commission RTUs, Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs), and HMIs for renewable and power utility clients. Create complete design packages for site network and communication architectures that comply with client and regulatory requirements. Assist Project Engineers with project schedules and provide regular, timely progress reports and status updates. Foster and maintain positive client relationships, responding both internally and externally with frequent client interaction. Support project timelines to keep the project schedule on track. Support strategic company and department initiatives. Travel to client sites and offices occasionally, up to 25% of the time. What You’ll Need Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a related field. 0–3 years of experience designing and leading SCADA projects. Willingness to learn about topics listed in the "Bonus If You Bring" section. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience in relevant coursework or projects in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Authorization to work in the United States on a full‑time basis. Bonus If You Bring Experience with utility‑scale renewable energy systems. Knowledge of SCADA concepts such as networking (VLANs, routing tables, firewall rules), PPCs (PID controllers, inverter communications and control, IEC 61131‑3), project management for Plant SCADA and PPC projects, HMI design (data relevance and operator interface), troubleshooting, and systems/server administration. Experience with industry‑standard protocols including DNP3, Modbus, OPC UA, etc. Data concentrator experience with SEL‑RTAC, Novatech OrionLX+, and similar systems; ability to create complex files and implement custom logic. HMI configuration experience, preferably with Ignition. Network and device configuration knowledge of manufacturers such as SEL, Hirschmann, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Dell, and Cisco. Use of troubleshooting tools such as Putty, Wireshark, and others as needed. Experience with cybersecurity and NERC compliance. Systems and server administration experience.
