Accounting Manager

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing the organization's accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. This role oversees day-to-day accounting activities, assists with month-end and year-end close processes, ensures accurate financial reporting, and helps maintain strong internal controls. The Assistant Controller also supervises accounting staff and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support the organization's financial objectives. Key Responsibilities Assist in managing the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Coordinate and oversee month-end and year-end closing processes. Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure the accuracy of financial records. Assist in developing and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Support the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve operational and financial performance. Prepare regulatory filings, tax support schedules, and other required financial reports. Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff. Participate in system implementations and process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Support special financial projects and management requests as assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA certification preferred. Experience 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience. 2-3 years of supervisory or management experience preferred. Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and audits. Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, SAP) preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong leadership and team management abilities. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
