JOB SUMMARY

Our newly UCSF Dentistry clinic is a high-volume, multi-specialty dental clinic located in the city of San Mateo. This flagship practice is designed with a strong emphasis on technology, integrated care, and an exceptional patient experience.

Under the supervision of the clinic supervisor, the Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist provider in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients. The incumbent prepares operatory for patient treatment, exposes and develops dental radiographs and performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the provider. Additionally, the RDA maintains dental equipment and work areas in compliance with UCSF policies and procedures relative to infection control and safety issues; maintains adequate operatory supplies and assists with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate.

Clinical Activities

• Makes patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records.
• Utilizes exceptional chair side manners to anticipate the provider needs and provides compassionate treatment.
• Prepares operatories for examinations and procedures. Use proper barriers when setting up the cubicles.
• Sets up instrument trays as appropriate for each procedure; ensures that all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use and in accordance with infection control policies.
• Hands instruments and materials to provider and keeps patients' mouths dry during procedures by using a suction hose as needed.
• Assists provider with cementing temporary crowns, pouring impressions and assists with extractions and bone grafting, implants, local anesthesia, suture placements/removals and biopsies.
• After treatment procedure, flush water lines, disinfect (spray and wipe all carts and counters)
• Administers medications and assists with Nitrous Oxide to patients.
• Makes diagnostic impressions and casts
• Trims dental casts
• Fabricates mouth and bite guards and custom trays
• Performs simple acrylic repairs
• Performs charting activities and document exam findings in patient record.
• Maintains cleanliness in operatories; performs equipment maintenance as scheduled, and report any equipment failures
• Provides general instructions to patient regarding oral hygiene and post-operative care.
• Maintains health records in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, coordinating with appropriate healthcare specialists to ensure continuity of care.
• Reviews and documents inventory and reorder supplies as necessary
• Safely performs all duties; follows required personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols to ensure personal safety as well the safety of others.
• Takes appropriate corrective actions to address matters pertaining to employee health and safety that have been brought to their attention
• Takes intraoral X-rays of patients' mouths.

• Take periapical, full mouth and panorex, cephlometric radiographs.

• Perform general radiology procedures including patient safety exposure, development and mounting of films, and mounting of x-rays, scanning and downloading electronic x-rays.

• Restock and clean radiology unit and maintain radiology equipment in proper working order.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Completion of a program in dental assistance
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience in general dentistry or specialties (pros, endo, pedo, ortho)
• Experience taking x-rays
• Excellent communication and patient-care abilities
• Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
• Familiar with infection control policies and procedures; HIPPA
• Knowledge of maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments.
• Familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medication used during dental procedures
• Sound knowledge of various periodontic procedures and practices
• Good hand to eye coordination and manual dexterity
• Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance.
• Able to multi-task in fast paced environment
• Excellent Interpersonal skills
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
