What You’ll Do as a Trainee Component Driver Maneuver tractor into position; attach trailer and secure lines. Operate the truck safely in compliance with all local, state, federal regulations and company policies. Inspect tractor‑trailer equipment pre/post trip and submit DOT inspection reports. Operate Driver Delivery Handheld (DDH) to document delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions. Ride and train with a Driver Trainer to destinations, learning commercial driving regulations and best practices for engine start, intersection handling, turns, backing, parking, and maneuvering. Maintain driver log (Manual or PeopleNet) per DOT regulations, documenting delivery receipts, product temperatures, and exceptions. Assist the Driver in unloading trailers and delivering product to customer premises. Provide customer service: on‑time delivery, undamaged product, returns, and issuing valid credits. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED preferred. Possess a Class A CDL. Be at least 21 years old. Meet eligibility requirements in the McLane Transfer and Promotion Policy. Ability and willingness to select/load/unload and deliver all McLane products. Read and comprehend labels, instructions, and bills of lading. Perform mathematical calculations to verify product quantities. Communicate with customers, management, and teammates. Drive a tractor‑trailer safely; use a 2‑wheeled dolly, ramp, and on‑board PeopleNet devices. Read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient for job‑related tasks, safety protocols, and communications.
