Transportation Manager II Westfield, Massachusetts, United States Supply Chain Full‑time Under general supervision this role is responsible for direct driver management of a midsize driver count, ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, and best‑in‑class customer service. The Transportation Manager must work any shift to satisfy demand for flexibility in scheduling to ensure operational success. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers to minimize turnover and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and support special projects related to fleet operations optimization and profitability. Utilize personnel management skills, including training and orientation of drivers and employees and assisting with internal and third‑party systems. Conduct analysis of fleet operations and profitability, recommend continuous improvement, determine and measure KPIs, and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and/or driver assignment to balance equipment in market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, invoicing, and operational or financial reporting. Manage yard operations, inspect equipment, schedule preventive maintenance, and coordinate with maintenance to ensure all safety‑related mechanical issues are fixed. Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing, mechanical problems, accessorial pay issues, and on‑call matters. Maintain the company’s safety culture with daily driver safety messages, monthly briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforce policies to meet DOT compliance and company safety requirements. Assign loads, plan routes, monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service, manage exceptions, and adjust driver ETA based on pick‑up and delivery schedules and environmental factors. Qualifications Minimum High School Diploma/GED and 2–3 years of transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends if needed. Strong professional communication skills applied internally and externally. Proven experience in establishing and maintaining healthy working relationships. Experience in fostering strong customer relationships via delivery of commitments, open communication, and ongoing feedback/improvement. Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy. Accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Experience in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Ability to consistently travel to account and customer locations. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment and shifting priorities. Experience in holding people accountable and conducting difficult conversations. Ability to perform in a stressful and high‑pressure work environment. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. 1–2 years of experience in transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or equivalent military experience. Compensation Starting pay range: $63,000.00 – $78,800.00 per year. Position not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship. Potential annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the company’s bonus and incentive plans.
