EOEPOSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of School Based Programs will need to possess familiarity with social services and a variety of available community resources. The Assistant Director of School Based Programs will assist with oversight of daily operations, program quality, compliance, and staff supervision for multiple Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) COMPASS after-school program sites. This position ensures that all sites provide safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate programming aligned with DYCD standards, Department of Health (DOH) School-Age Child Care (SACC) regulations, and organizational goals. The Assistant Director of School Based Programs supports Program Director and frontline staff while maintaining strong relationships with schools, families, and community stakeholders. The Assistant Director of School Based Programs will be responsible for.The ideal candidate is an organized, mission-driven leader with experience managing youth development programs across multiple locations and ensuring high-quality service delivery, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.This position involves traveling to multiple worksite locations daily and assisting with the implementation of strategies to recruit and retain participants. Additionally, the Assistant Director of School-Based Programs will help coordinate personnel training and ensure staff performance aligns with organizational goals.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):Program Oversight & OperationsSupervise and support multiple DYCD funded UAU COMPASS program sites to ensure consistent, high-quality programming for grades K-8Monitor daily program operations, including attendance, staff coverage, safety procedures, transitions, meal service, and activity implementation.Conduct regular daily/weekly site visits to assess program quality, staff performance, safety compliance, and adherence to DYCD and DOH/SACC regulations.Ensure all sites maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including attendance records, incident reports, emergency contact information, medical records, and enrollment files.Ensure implementation of age-appropriate educational, recreational, enrichment, leadership, and social-emotional learning activities aligned with COMPASS goals.Oversee compliance with DYCD contractual requirements, DOE school-based procedures, and DOH Article 47 School-Age Child Care (SACC) regulations.DOH/SACC Compliance & LicensingEnsure all assigned sites remain fully compliant with NYC Department of Health School-Age Child Care (SACC) licensing requirements.Monitor compliance related to:Staff-to-child ratiosGroup size requirementsSupervision protocolsHealth screenings and medical documentationEmergency preparedness and evacuation drillsSafety plans and injury reportingFingerprinting and background clearancesRequired staff certifications and trainingsConduct internal compliance audits and corrective action follow-up visits.Ensure all mandated postings, permits, inspection reports, and emergency procedures are visible and current at each site.Prepare sites for DOH inspections, DYCD monitoring visits, and licensing renewals.Collaborate with leadership to address violations, corrective actions, and compliance improvement plans.Staff Supervision & DevelopmentDirectly supervise Site Directors, Assistant Directors, and front-line staff across assigned locations.Conduct staff observations, evaluations, coaching sessions, and performance improvement meetings.Support recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and retention of program staff.Verify that all staff complete mandatory trainings, including:Health and safety trainingsCPR/First Aid certificationMandated reporter trainingBehavior management and de-escalation trainingDOH-required annual professional development hoursFoster a positive, collaborative, culturally responsive, and youth-centered work environment.Address staff performance concerns and implement disciplinary or corrective action procedures when necessary.Youth & Family EngagementPromote positive youth development practices and maintain safe, inclusive, and supportive environments for participants.Build strong relationships with students, families, school administration, and community stakeholders.Respond to parent concerns, incidents, and behavioral issues professionally and promptly.Support family engagement initiatives, student showcases, orientations, and community events.Ensure confidentiality and professionalism when handling student and family information.Compliance, Reporting & Data ManagementEnsure all sites meet DYCD contractual obligations, enrollment targets, attendance benchmarks, and audit requirements.Review and approve incident reports, timesheets, payroll documentation, and compliance records.Track program outcomes, attendance trends, staffing patterns, and operational performance indicators.Maintain organized records for inspections, audits, licensing visits, and internal reviews.Prepare reports for senior leadership, DYCD, DOH, and other stakeholders as required.Support continuous quality improvement initiatives across all sites.Administrative & Strategic LeadershipCollaborate with senior leadership on program planning, budgeting, staffing, and operational strategy.Assist with implementation of organizational goals, special initiatives, and quality improvement plans.Participate in meetings with DYCD representatives, DOH licensors, school administrators, and community partners.Support crisis management, emergency response procedures, and incident investigations when necessary.Provide on-call operational support as needed.Abide by and enforce all safety protocols as outlined by the NYC Department of Health/ NYC Department of Education, OCFS, FDNY, DYCD and UAUPerforms other related duties as necessary or assigned.JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, Public Administration, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in youth development, after-school programming, or school-age child care programs.Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing multiple program sites.Strong knowledge of:DYCD COMPASS programming standardsNYC DOH Article 47 School-Age Child Care (SACC) regulationsDOE school-based operations and compliance requirementsExperience with licensing inspections, compliance monitoring, audits, and corrective action planning.Strong leadership, managerial, organizational, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, online reporting systems, and data management platforms.CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently and trustworthyWilling to take initiative and be flexible when neededExcels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
