The Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate racial and other inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems (BEHS) is the health care systems bureau of DOHMH. Our mission is to apply policy, evidence, and practical expertise to improve equity in health care delivery at the individual, organizational and systems levels. The Health Care Access & Policy (HCAP) Office within BEHS drives policy, programming, and research that maximizes health insurance coverage and increases access to a fordable high quality, and coordinated primary care with a strong focus on health equity. HCAP has dedicated staff working to improve access to quality, culturally appropriate primary care for New Yorkers, particularly those who are at risk for poor health outcome, by ensuring that on-the ground programmatic work, policy, and data activities inform one another. Within HCAP sits the Healthy Aging Unit, a program that builds support for older adults and their caregivers and strengthens the NYC Health Department’s ability to monitor and respond to the health needs of older adults. The unit offers an exciting, unique opportunity for a public health professional with an interest in disease prevention, healthcare policy, health insurance (Medicare/Medicaid), and research. The Bureau of Equitable Health Systems seeks to hire a Healthy Aging Program Coordinator who must be able to effectively manage initiatives and multiple projects simultaneously in supporting the Bureau's mission. Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To Contribute to strategizing, developing, implementing, and evaluating program initiatives that help support the health of older adults and address intersectional inequities. Assist in research and quantitative data analysis on public health initiatives including health insurance and including reviewing relevant literature. Disseminate information and serve as liaison between the Healthy Aging Unit and other agency programs and assist with troubleshooting. Coordinate with other city agencies to align priorities related to Healthy Aging. Collaborate with policy-focused staff across the agency to analyze and interpret aging-related policies and policies related to health insurance for older adults. Coordinate communication efforts to internal and external partners. Prepare reports, as appropriate. Conduct background research and prepare proposals for new programs. Maintain up-to-date knowledge base on relevant policy issues including public health insurance programs, health reform and transformation initiatives impacting primary care and health insurance coverage and healthy aging. Assist in planning, coordinating, and evaluating educational events, community outreach activities, and Healthy Aging initiatives. Maintain and update Healthy Aging contact lists, partner networks, and program resources. Identify and coordinate community outreach opportunities and events to support NYC Health Department engagement with older adults. Initiate and support special projects as requested by unit leadership. Preferred Skills Strong organizational and project management skills. Outstanding interpersonal and writing skills. Proficient in Microsoft applications. Minimum Qualifications For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health. To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have: A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above. Note Probationary Period Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
