Responsible for the 24-hour operation of the Hospice Department in collaboration with the department leadership, including planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating direct and indirect patient care. Assumes major responsibility for day-to-day operational affairs, including the financial health of the Hospice Department. May require delivery of skilled nursing care when staffing requires supplementation. Assumes major leadership role for hospice services. Understands and complies with applicable accreditation and regulatory requirements governing hospice. Maintains a high level of professional expertise and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development. Assures ongoing education to contracted facilities that utilize Hospice services. Assists with marketing of Hospice to the community. Assures Hospice contracts are updated yearly. Will share hospice administrative call coverage responsibilities on a rotational basis.
Current Oregon licensure as a Registered Nurse, required. Current CPR certification.
Two years management experience required, Two years of Budgetary responsibility required. Hospice management experience preferred. Two years' experience working with the medical and psychosocial needs of the terminally ill or the educational equivalent. Must have valid driver's license, insured vehicle for transportation, and insurable driving record. Desired skills include: Clinical excellence, leadership abilities, teaching competency, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills. In-depth knowledge of current hospice health care concepts, trends and theories, reimbursement issues, and knowledge in the area of delivery of hospice services. Supportive of the philosophies of Cascade Health Solutions and Hospice Services. Ability to work as a member of a team.
Maintain knowledge base of current nursing practices.
Demonstrate clear focus on quality and performance, including productivity.
Facilitate conflict resolution and positive peer communication.
Assure compliance with regulations.
Work independently, using good time management and sound judgment.
Utilize excellent communication skills: verbal, written, electronic.
Write and update department policies and procedures.
Assess quality of the department from patient care to financial health
Lead conferences, meetings, and in-services.
Organize, prioritize and delegate routinely and in crisis.
Respond to emergencies and conduct patient assessment.
Conduct patient and family/caregiver education.
Frequent computer use.
Drive an automobile safely.
Hire, train, coach, counsel, and terminate staff.
Exhibit good teaching skills.
Negotiate terrain and physical obstacles to reach patients.
Organize and facilitate orientation process for new employees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Answer phones, clerical duties. Assist in moving office furniture, light repairs.
