Peer Recovery Specialist This is a full‑time position with an excellent fringe benefits package. Provides recovery support services to individuals participating in medication assisted treatment within the criminal justice system population such as re‑entry, jail systems, probation and parole. Assist in creating a recovery environment and act as an advocate for the needs and rights of individuals. Act as lead staff in support groups, teaching and training recovery information and tools, and post‑discharge recovery check‑ups. Provide recovery support services at other locations as assigned by the immediate supervisor. Model personal responsibility, self‑advocacy, and hopefulness by helping individuals tell their recovery story, showing how their needs are respectfully met, and maintaining belief in themselves. Practice recovery principles in all activities including hope, empowerment, responsibility, mutuality, and self‑determination. Transport or escort individuals to and from programming when assigned by supervisor. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Personal knowledge and lived experience as a recipient of substance abuse treatment services, and ongoing involvement in an addiction recovery plan including self‑help involvement. Ability and willingness to share personal experiences as part of providing peer support to adults with addiction issues. Training and ongoing supervision required and provided as part of employment. Candidates must pass all CMCS background screenings. Location Laurels Recovery Center, Lebanon, VA About the Organization CMCSB was formed in 1972 as a Chapter 10 Community Services Board under Virginia law. CMCSB provides mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance abuse treatment services to the residents of Buchanan, Russell, and Tazewell Counties. At the present time, CMCSB operates over twenty locations, including outpatient offices, mental health recovery programs, group homes, day support programs for intellectually disabled individuals, and a residential alcohol and drug treatment program. CMCSB also provides a 24‑hour crisis team to assist community agencies and individuals in crisis situations. CMCSB employs approximately 500 employees, including full‑time and part‑time staff, as well as individuals receiving services who are employed in various day programs.
