This onsite role in Detroit, MI is designed for someone who can serve as the facility’s go-to HR leader, ensuring smooth day-to-day people operations and staying aligned with required regulations. What You’ll Do Manage candidate records through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) , including training hiring managers on the correct process. Complete background checks through ATS links before new hires begin. Ensure the fingerprinting process is initiated prior to new employee start dates. Enter new hires into the HRIS after background check completion and ensure employees complete all onboarding steps. Maintain accurate Personnel Action Notice (PAN) documentation for hiring and ongoing status changes, including full-time or part-time updates, pay changes, transfers, and terminations. Schedule and deliver weekly new hire orientation , presenting required HR topics using provided materials. Administer benefits on a new employee’s first day by entering them into the benefits system, ensuring benefits elections or waivers are completed on time, and adding monthly deductions to payroll. Review, correct, enter deductions, and submit payroll for processing. Support recruiting efforts that may include job fairs , school partnerships, and managing social media accounts. Handle employee questions and complaints and partner with managers to keep disciplinary actions consistent across the facility. Lead or participate in investigations involving harassment and other ethical or safety matters while maintaining confidentiality. Manage FMLA and other leaves according to the process and ensure compliance with HIPAA . Respond to verification of employment requests, garnishments, disability claims, WOTC requests, and process Medical Support Orders. Maintain OSHA files and annually submit and post OSHA required documents. Act as the facility’s primary resource for benefits and handbook-related questions , coordinating with regional and home office HR teams when issues cannot be resolved onsite. Maintain employee files at the location for state review and compliance. Perform other duties as assigned. What You Bring Working knowledge of WOTC, EEO, I-9, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA , and Worker’s Compensation . Working knowledge of benefit plans . Working knowledge of OSHA documentation management . Strong HR management and leadership skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize workload. Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word). Ability to coach employees and managers at all levels to ensure consistent process adherence. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or a related field preferred. HRCI or SHRM certification preferred (not required). At least 5 years of HR Generalist or Assistant experience preferred. At least 2 years of experience working in a skilled nursing facility or hospital environment preferred. Experience with HR systems, including applicant tracking , HRIS , and LMS (e.g., Apploi, Paycor, Employee Navigator). Experience working in a union environment preferred, based on location.
