TRAINING SUPERVISOR
Under general direction, supervises the operation of the WCSD Transportation Training Division. Supervises, trains, evaluates and coordinates activities of Transportation training staff performing behind the wheel driving instruction, classroom instruction and evaluation activities. Incumbent performs related duties as required.
This position is focused on developing policies and procedures for the Training Division and by the supervisor's role as liaison with other user agencies and government entities on transportation training issues. It is also responsible for supervising transportation training staff and the daily operations of the Transportation Training Division. Duties also include maintaining transportation records, schedules, recruiting new employees, updating/communicating training curriculum, including federal and state transportation regulations, and tracking staffing/hiring metrics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leadership & Division Management
- Plans, organizes, and directs the daily operations and productivity of the Transportation Training Division.
- Supervises, evaluates, and assigns work to Training Division staff.
- Provides guidance, counseling, and technical support to staff to resolve work-related issues.
- Conducts probationary and annual performance evaluations.
- Ensures continuous development and training of staff aligned with departmental standards and best practices.
- Develops and maintains effective working relationships across Transportation divisions.
- Assists in developing fiscal plans and managing the division budget.
- Training Program Development & Delivery
- Develops, implements, and evaluates transportation training programs for drivers and staff.
- Designs training programs based on needs analysis for new and current employees.
- Develops, audits, and revises instructional materials, procedures, and curriculum.
- Ensures delivery of classroom, behind-the-wheel, and safety training programs.
- Updates and communicates training curriculum based on federal, state, and district requirements.
- Ensures training staff provide ongoing driver instruction, safety training, and performance evaluations.
- Conducts and updates safety meetings, procedures, and communications to drivers.
- Compliance, Safety & Regulatory Oversight
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws related to pupil transportation and driver training.
- Monitors driver compliance with licensing, certification, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains knowledge of current and emerging laws, regulations, and industry practices.
- Tracks accident data and develops training strategies to improve safety and reduce incidents.
- Oversees implementation of mandated programs, including the elementary Bus Safety Program.
- Recruitment, Hiring & Workforce Planning
- Recruits, interviews, and evaluates candidates for transportation training positions.
- Coordinates hiring processes and ensures timely completion of all hiring documentation.
- Develops recruitment strategies and maintains a pipeline of qualified candidates.
- Participates in hiring events, including those outside regular business hours.
- Tracks workforce metrics including vacancies, separations, and trainee progress.
- Makes recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, discipline, and dismissal.
- Data Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Collects, analyzes, and interprets operational and training data to improve program effectiveness.
- Develops and maintains performance metrics and reporting systems.
- Prepares reports on training outcomes, driver performance, and operational efficiency.
- Uses data-driven decision-making to refine training programs and processes.
- Communication & External Relations
- Serves as liaison with district departments and external agencies on transportation training matters.
- Represents the division in meetings with local, state, and federal agencies.
- Communicates training standards, expectations, and updates to staff and stakeholders.
- Prepares reports, memoranda, and communications related to training and safety.
- Technology & Systems Oversight
- Oversees implementation and use of transportation and training-related technology systems.
- Trains staff on dispatch, routing, timekeeping, attendance, and other operational software.
- Supports evaluation and improvement of systems used within the Training Division.
- Ensures staff competency in required software platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office, routing, dispatch systems).
- Records Management & Administrative Functions
- Maintains Training Division records, including personnel, operational, and compliance documentation.
- Prepares and maintains required local, state, and federal reports.
- Verifies staff time, attendance, overtime, and leave.
- Performs administrative and clerical duties, including filing and communication support as needed.
- Operational Support
- Assists with transportation operations and coordination across divisions.
- Drives school bus routes as needed to support operations and training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and experience would be:
1. Equivalent to an Associate's degree from an accredited college with major course work in human resources, business administration or related training field;
AND
2. Four (4) years of progressive experience in a management capacity in an operations business environment. Experience in a pupil transportation, human resources, or a dedicated training environment using automated media systems - both verbal and written preferred.
OR
3. Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major course work in human resources, business administration or related training field;
AND
4. Two (2) years of progressive experience in a management capacity in an operations business environment. Experience in a pupil transportation, human resources, or a dedicated training environment using automated media systems - both verbal and written preferred.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a Nevada Commercial Driver's License Class B, with a passenger endorsement and school bus endorsement; in addition to a CPR/First Aid certification.
Knowledge of:
- Reading, writing, and basic math.
- State and local laws, regulations, rules and practices of school bus operations, including defensive driving and emergency procedures.
- Passenger behavior management techniques.
- Nevada Motor Vehicle Code applicable and current safety standards and procedures.
- Use and function of safety and mechanical systems and equipment; instruction and evaluation techniques; Computer systems and technology.
- Policies and procedures governing passenger transportation; principles and practices of supervisory management.
- Applying, teaching and/or evaluating defensive driving principles and safety practices.
- Establishing and maintaining working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.
- Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing; following oral and written instructions.
- Supervising, training, and evaluating others; dealing appropriately with confidential data.
- Ability to successfully interact with a variety of employees, supervisors, district personnel, general public in a professional and congenial manner.
- Using computer programs and technology to generate reports and develop driver training and evaluations data.
- Scheduling, preparing, and interpreting reports in a timely manner.
- Staff supervision.

This position is for the 2026/27 school year with an anticipated contract start date after July, 1st 2026.
