Job Description:\n\nDirector of CoachingHighline Premier FC Highline Premier FC is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking Director of Coaching to lead the club's technical vision, coaching standards, and player-development framework. The Director of Coaching is HPFC's senior soccer leader and is responsible for establishing a consistent, player-centered approach across all teams and programs. This position directly supervises HPFC's Boys and Girls Directors of Coaching while providing leadership, standards, support, and accountability for the entire coaching staff. The Director of Coaching works closely with the Executive Director, program directors, coaching staff, and operations team to ensure that HPFC delivers a high-quality developmental experience for players from U8 through U19. The ideal candidate is an experienced soccer leader who can set a clear technical direction, develop coaches and program leaders, build trust with players and families, and translate the club's mission into consistent daily practice.Position Details Position: Director of CoachingEmployment Type: Part-time, salariedReports To: Executive DirectorDirect Reports: Boys Director of Coaching and Girls Director of CoachingFunctional Responsibility: Club-wide coaching staffLocation: Burien, West Seattle, and surrounding communitiesWorkload: Approximately 20 to 30 hours per week, including any assigned team-coaching responsibilitiesSchedule: Weekday, evening, and weekend availability is requiredRole and Reporting Structure The Director of Coaching is responsible for the overall direction, quality, performance, and development of HPFC's coaching program. The Boys and Girls Directors of Coaching serve as the primary supervisors and day-to-day leaders for coaches within their respective programs. The Director of Coaching directly supervises those program directors and remains responsible for ensuring that all coaches meet HPFC's technical, developmental, professional, and cultural standards. The Director of Coaching establishes club-wide expectations, evaluates program performance, leads coach-development initiatives, and makes staffing and program recommendations in collaboration with the Executive Director.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership and Club DirectionEstablish, communicate, and maintain HPFC's club-wide technical vision, developmental philosophy, curriculum, and playing principlesEnsure technical and developmental standards are consistently applied across boys' and girls' programs, age groups, leagues, and levels of competitionDevelop and maintain a clear player pathway from the club's youngest teams through its senior competitive programsProvide strategic leadership for the continued growth and improvement of HPFC's soccer programsEvaluate emerging coaching methods, player-development practices, and soccer technologies for appropriate use within the clubEnsure program directors and coaches understand how their work supports HPFC's mission, curriculum, and development modelMaintain alignment across teams competing in Elite Academy, RCL, WPL, and other approved competitionsProgram Director LeadershipDirectly supervise, support, and evaluate the Boys and Girls Directors of CoachingEstablish clear goals, responsibilities, and performance expectations for each program directorConduct regular individual meetings with direct reports to review staffing, team performance, player development, and emerging program concernsSupport program directors in managing coaches, resolving performance issues, and implementing club standardsCoordinate work across the boys' and girls' programs to prevent isolation, duplication, or conflicting expectationsDevelop leadership capacity among program directors and other potential future club leadersProvide recommendations to the Executive Director regarding program structure, staffing, compensation, and leadership needsCoaching Staff Development and AccountabilityMaintain responsibility for the quality, performance, development, and professional conduct of HPFC's coaching staffEstablish a consistent club-wide process for coach observation, evaluation, feedback, and professional developmentConduct direct observations of coaches and support program directors in completing regular coach evaluationsDevelop improvement plans when coaches are not meeting club expectationsLead or coordinate coach-education workshops, staff meetings, mentorship opportunities, and collaborative learning activitiesEstablish coaching-license expectations and support continued coaching educationParticipate in the recruitment, selection, onboarding, assignment, retention, and separation of coachesEnsure coaching assignments reflect player needs, coach qualifications, team level, and organizational prioritiesPromote a coaching culture grounded in professionalism, accountability, collaboration, respect, and continued learningEnsure compliance with SafeSport, background-check, risk-management, licensing, and club-training requirementsCurriculum and MethodologyDevelop and maintain a year-round, age-appropriate curriculum aligned with HPFC's technical and philosophical standardsEstablish clear learning objectives and developmental priorities for each age group and stage of the player pathwayProvide program directors and coaches with practical tools, session plans, educational resources, and implementation guidanceMonitor curriculum implementation through training observations, staff conversations, and program reviewsAdapt curriculum expectations appropriately for team level, training frequency, competition environment, and player needsEnsure goalkeeper development, athletic development, and position-specific training are integrated into the broader curriculumReview and update the curriculum based on player outcomes, coach feedback, and developments within the gamePlayer Development and PathwaysOversee HPFC's club-wide approach to player evaluation, placement, advancement, and long-term developmentEstablish consistent standards and processes for tryouts, roster formation, player movement, and seasonal assessmentsEnsure players and families receive useful, developmentally appropriate feedbackSupport program directors and coaches in identifying players who may benefit from higher levels of training or competitionHelp create pathways into Elite Academy, collegiate soccer, regional identification, national identification, and other appropriate opportunitiesMonitor player-development, participation, and retention trends across the clubEvaluate whether team and competition placements are serving the developmental needs of playersPromote a player-centered approach that balances development, appropriate competition, accountability, and enjoyment of the gameFamily and Community EngagementClearly communicate HPFC's player-development philosophy, competitive pathways, coaching expectations, and technical standardsSupport program directors and coaches in communicating effectively with players and familiesParticipate in family education sessions, club meetings, and program presentationsAddress significant technical or coaching concerns that cannot be resolved at the team or program-director levelRepresent HPFC professionally with leagues, governing bodies, partner clubs, schools, and nearly 500 players from Burien, West Seattle, White Center, Des Moines, and surrounding communities. HPFC provides a demanding, organized, and nurturing environment for players from U8 through U19. Our teams compete in the Regional Club League, Elite Academy League, and Washington Premier League. The Director of Coaching may also coach up to two HPFC teams. Each team assignment is compensated separately at a flat rate of $1,500 per month, or $18,000 annually per team. Depending on team assignments, the anticipated annual compensation opportunity is:Base salary only: $45,000 to $60,000Base salary plus one team: $63,000 to $78,000Base salary plus two teams: $81,000 to $96,000 Team assignments are based on club needs, coach qualifications, scheduling capacity, and approval by the Executive Director. Team assignments are not guaranteed from year to year. Benefits include:Medical and dental insuranceAccess to HPFC's 401(k) retirement plan with a club matching contributionWashington State paid sick leaveEducation reimbursement for approved job-related courses, coaching licenses, diplomas, and professional-development programsReimbursement for approved mileage, tolls, and authorized business travelProfessional-development and continuing education opportunities Eligibility, enrollment periods, employee contributions, matching amounts, and other benefit terms are governed by the applicable benefit plans and HPFC policies.Work Schedule This position is expected to require approximately 20 to 30 total hours per week, including Director of Coaching responsibilities and any assigned team-coaching responsibilities. The schedule is not a traditional Monday-through-Friday schedule. Regular availability is required during weekday business hours, weekday evenings, and weekends. Hours will fluctuate throughout the soccer year. Some weeks may require fewer hours, while tryouts, tournaments, league events, staff development, and other peak periods may require additional evening or weekend work. Team coaching typically requires approximately four to twelve hours per week, depending on the training schedule, matches, tournaments, travel, and seasonal programming. The Director of Coaching is expected to manage their schedule in coordination with the Executive Director while remaining available for staff leadership, administrative responsibilities, training sessions, matches, meetings, and club events.Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:Standing, walking, observing, demonstrating, and coaching for extended periodsWorking outdoors in varying weather and field conditionsOccasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 35 poundsTraveling between HPFC fields, matches, meetings, and club eventsWorking in field, office, and remote environmentsMaintaining regular evening and weekend availabilityWork Authorization Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
