Hospitality GM: Multi-Venue Events & Growth Leader

Detroit Shipping Company is looking for a seasoned manager to operate the business, mentor and coach up our staff, identify opportunities to grow sales and take a proactive role in shaping our business. We are seeking a hospitality-minded leader who provides the necessary support to both operations and sales to keep things running cohesively, at the highest standards of hospitality, while also driving profitability,and cultivating growth of your staff. Our business is multi-faceted - from bar operations, to private parties and entertainment, to events and public programming - there are a lot of moving pieces. Prioritization, organization, and communication are a must. In addition, the space is home to six restaurant vendors, a podcast studio, and a retail space - so the ability to deal with multiple personalities and rally our partners will be key. You won’t be responsible for a kitchen, but will help coordinate and manage our tenants. We are looking to onboard a trusted entrepreneurial partner who can appropriately communicate with ownership to advise on business progress, challenges, financials, and new initiatives. Key Responsibilities Include: People & Process Manage relationships, help shape culture, provide a positive environment where employees are empowered and rewarded to take responsibility, provide mentorship for assistant managers and other employees. Help refine and implement SOP Evaluate all current staff, train and uplevel attention to detail and hospitality Hire and train new staff as needed, maintain a level of diversity that reflects the city of Detroit Ensure proper staffing levels, refine approach to scheduling Operations Have finger on the pulse of the operation and eyes on all aspects of operations Ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of facility by ensuring attention to detail Guide direction of beverage program Activate new and repeat initiatives across the organization Advise and drive marketing initiatives, ensuring the DSC brand is represented in our communications and programming Advise and work with ownership on capital improvements Oversee sales manager and continue to grow private event bookings Facilitate execution of events by ensuring proper communication and handoff between sales and operations Guide sales staff in goal-setting, sourcing new business, capitalizing on opportunities, working with CRM system, and continuing to foster a reputation for outstanding customer service Have a strong grasp of financials, drive efficient profit margins in all P&L areas, look for efficiencies and areas of focus for profitability Reporting to ownership and shareholders Goal setting, projections and planning Requirements 3+ years of GM experience 1+ years management or proprietor experience in non-chain establishment Experience in high volume venue, featuring events, entertainment and private parties Hands-on, high energy, ability to be on site nights and weekends College Degree is preferred. Detroit Shipping Company is a 12,000 square foot restaurant collective and beer garden, built from 21 refurbished shipping containers, located in Cass Corridor Detroit.
