Mechanical Field Engineer (Spartanburg Data Center)

Position Summary As a Mechanical Engineering Professional , you will work on projects that enable the heart of our client’s data center site. You will collaborate with client owners, contractors, and site personnel in Spartanburg, SC, supporting projects of varying size and complexity including assessment of systems, consulting, and scope analysis. Responsibilities include designing, developing, evaluating, and preparing recommendations with basis of design, scope of work, and construction specifications. You will oversee engineering and construction activities for HVAC, chilled water, technical coolant, fire protection, plumbing, process-piping, and equipment, including retrofits and new systems. Responsibilities Review vendor submittal packages against client requirements and specifications Interact with subcontractors and construction personnel Perform field inspections and audits to verify compliance with contract documents, drawings, industry standards, and safety regulations Review and interpret project specifications, drawings, RFI’s, and submittals to ensure adherence to quality requirements Track and document non-conformance reports (NCRs) and oversee corrective actions Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and project teams to enforce quality standards and resolve issues Oversee and inspect construction activities to verify workmanship, alignment, and project requirements Support pre-installation meetings, punch lists, and final inspections to ensure project milestones are met Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university At least 3 years of practical application of mechanical facilities design engineering, including HVAC, hydronics, process piping, exhaust, plumbing, and related mechanical facilities systems Ability to collaborate and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and leadership experience Solid knowledge and application of building codes and related standards (ASHRAE, ASME, etc.) Solid knowledge of practices and procedures for specifications and selection of all types of mechanical equipment and components Proficient working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Autodesk Construction Cloud Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas Passionate about buildings and construction Preferred Qualifications EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure 5 years of experience working on site or as a facility engineer Working knowledge of design-related deliverables such as P&IDs, PFDs, details, and equipment plans Proficiency with HVAC load and energy modeling software such as Carrier HAP, Trane Trace 700, or Trane Trace 3D Experience coordinating work packages with contractors/subcontractors Location This is an on‑site position requiring work to be performed on the client site in Spartanburg, SC. If the applicant is not located in the region, relocation assistance may be available. Candidates will be required to be on site Monday‑Friday during normal business hours—nominally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Physical Requirements Position requires field visits and walks at an active client site in various stages of construction. Applicants must be able to walk long distances, sit and stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, twist, crawl, climb ladders, work on catwalks and in small spaces, and lift and carry up to 25 lb. Jacobs will not sponsor or continue a visa for this position. Benefits and Compensation The base salary range for this position is $69,500.00 to $121,500.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
