Job Description Job Title: Nurse Practitioner - Telemetry - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night A nurse practitioner (NP) as described in Title VIII, Article 139 section 6910 of the New York Education Law is a RN who has earned a separate certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a distinct specialty area of practice. Nurse practitioners are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for a patient’s condition that falls within their specialty area of practice. NOTE: Medical orders, progress notes and treatment plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. Responsibilities Assess the health status of patients/families by means of comprehensive health history and physical examination. Initiate and order selected therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations and laboratory examinations, prescribe medication regimens, interpret findings and alter plan of care according to accepted standards of care and practice guidelines. Educate and counsel in the areas of health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Document findings and plan of care in the patient’s medical record. Consult with physician according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area. Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care. Participate in team meetings and conferences to enhance an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Maintain patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Develop the plan of care based on diagnoses and individual patient needs. Record, report, and interpret the client’s responses to the plan of care. Perform a patient record review with the collaborating physician in a timely fashion but not less than every three months if utilizing a collaborative practice agreement. Complete the Focused Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (FPPE) or the Ongoing Professional Practice Proctoring Evaluation (OPPE) as required by Medical Staff for continued credentialing status. Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and the bylaws of the Hospital Staff. Support the mission, vision, philosophy, and goals of the Department of Nursing and the MSHS. Demonstrate accountability for own nursing practice. Consider ethical issues of professional nursing practice and adhere to the code of ethics. Demonstrate a humanistic, kind, and caring attitude in the delivery of health care. Serve as a resource person to nurses and other health team members. Participate in peer review. Incorporate research findings in clinical practice. Participate in approved nursing and medical research studies. Keep knowledge current by self‑directed learning, literature review and attendance at educational programs. Participate in defining, maintaining, and interpreting standards of nursing practice. Contribute to a positive image of advanced practice nursing in the medical center and the local community by implementing programs which recognize nursing as a profession. Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees which influence and/or determine policies affecting nursing practice and patient care delivery. Seek opportunities to enhance professional nursing practice and influence outcomes. Treat co‑workers, patients and families with dignity and respect. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to perform history taking. Ability to perform physical assessment techniques. Demonstrate and complete documentation of competency in specialty specific procedures according to established standards as part of initial orientation and annual performance review. Ability to interpret and apply principles of nursing research utilization. Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload. Work within a Collaborative Practice Agreement or Collaborative Practice Relationship Attestation as a member of the health care team in area of practice. Physical stamina and manual dexterity to perform a variety of tasks and skills in the area of assignment. Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership. Education and Experience Licensure: New York State License with current registration as a registered nurse. State Certification: Certified by the New York State Department of Education as a Nurse Practitioner with current registration. Must be a graduate of a New York State registered Nurse Practitioner Program or be certified by a national association via examination. Completed the pharmacy component (minimum required semester hours) and the 3‑hour course on New York State and Federal laws related to prescriptions and record‑keeping. Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician (or relationship) for practitioners with less than 3,600 practice hours; if more, a documented work history of greater than 3,600 practice hours suffices. Previous progressive experience relevant to the area of clinical practice. National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing required (unless hire date prior to June 1 2019 and deferred consent). For billers, required regardless of hire date. May be deferred up to one year if approved by the Chief Nursing Officer or designee. DEA certificate and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificates as required by specialty. Credentialed through the Credentialing Committee of the Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges. Compensation Statement The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range that complies with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $84.59 – $84.59 per hour. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
