Nurse Practitioner - Telemetry - Mount Sinai Hospital - Full Time - Night

Overview Description: Nurse Practitioner - Telemetry, Mount Sinai Hospital, Full Time, Night shift. A nurse practitioner (NP) is an RN who has earned certification as an NP through advanced clinical nursing education in a specialty area. NPs are independent practitioners who diagnose, treat, and prescribe for patients within their specialty. Medical orders, progress notes, and treatment plans are not required to be countersigned by a physician. Responsibilities Assesses the health status of patients and families through comprehensive history and physical examination. Initiates and orders selective therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, consultations, and laboratory examinations; prescribes medication regimens; interprets findings; and adjusts plan of care according to standards of care and practice guidelines. Educates and counsels on health promotion, maintenance, disease prevention, and management of acute/chronic illnesses. Documents findings and plan of care in the patient’s medical record. Consults with physicians according to established standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria. Initiates referrals to specialty services and fosters continuity of care. Participates in team meetings and conferences to support an interdisciplinary approach to care delivery. Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information. Develops the plan of care based on diagnoses and individual patient needs; records and interprets responses to the plan of care. Performs patient record reviews with collaborating physicians as required by the collaborative practice agreement. Completes FPPE/OPPE as required by Medical Staff for credentialing. Practices as a member of the allied health staff according to Medical Staff bylaws and hospital regulations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities History taking and physical assessment skills. Documentation of competency in specialty procedures according to standards. Ability to interpret and apply nursing research utilization. Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload. Work within a Collaborative Practice Agreement or attestation as a healthcare team member. Physical stamina and dexterity; excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, and leadership skills. Education and Credentials Licensure: New York State RN license with current registration. State Certification: NYS Department of Education Nurse Practitioner certification with current registration; graduate of an NYS NP program or equivalent, or certified by a national association via examination. Additional requirements: Pharmacy component and instruction in NYS and Federal prescription laws (3-hour course); Collaborative Practice Agreement with a physician if Education: Master’s degree in a program designed to prepare an NP to diagnose, treat, and prescribe for conditions within their specialty, or equivalent post-master’s NP certificate. Experience: Previous progressive clinical experience required. National Board Certification in Advanced Practice Nursing is required for all NPs hired on or after June 1, 2019; for professionals who bill, certification is required regardless of hire date. Certification may be deferred up to 1 year with approval from the Chief Nursing Officer or designee. Credentialed through Medical Board with approved Delineation of Privileges. DEA and BLS required; ACLS/PALS/NALS/NRP as required by specialty. Collective bargaining unit: NYSNA-MSH; NYSNA at Mount Sinai Hospital, Telemetry NPS – MSH. Compensation and Benefits Salary range is provided in the job posting in compliance with applicable law. Final salary is determined by experience, education, and operational need.
