Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) supports the Nurse Manager (NM) with supervisory duties and responsibility and accountability for the 24/7 operations of their designated units. They provide coverage for other ANMs as needed. The ANM has responsibility and accountability for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and provides input into the evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes. The ANM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence. The ANM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. The ANM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP). The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) serves as a key clinical leader who supports the Nurse Manager (NM) in maintaining the operational excellence of the unit. While the NM retains full administrative accountability for 24/7 unit operations, the ANM provides essential clinical guidance and support to ensure high-quality patient care. In this role, the ANM acts as a mentor, educator, and clinical practitioner, providing leadership to the team through the following functions: Clinical Guidance and Development: Facilitates the orientation, training, and professional development of staff. The ANM serves as a subject matter expert and role model, offering clinical feedback to support staff growth and competency. Performance Support: Provides observational input and clinical documentation to the NM, who maintains final responsibility for individual staff performance evaluations. Operational Collaboration: Partners with the interdisciplinary team to identify and remove barriers to care, implementing evidence-based practices and innovative programs to enhance patient outcomes. Unit Support: Provides coverage for other ANMs as needed and assists the NM in coordinating daily unit activities to ensure consistent, high-standard care delivery.
