Clemson University: College of Science: Chemistry Location HUNTER HALL 0367 Open Date Aug 19, 2026 Description The Kolis research group in the Department of Chemistry at Clemson University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an existing project involving the synthesis and characterization of single crystals with unusual magnetic and quantum material properties. The focus of Kolis group research for this high-risk high reward project is to employ a unique high temperature hydrothermal method to access unexplored new structure types and metal oxidation states. The goal is to synthesize and study new single crystal phases having new and unusual magnetic properties and displaying frustrated magnetic states and quantum properties. By accessing unusual high metal oxidation states, new materials with frustrated quantum behavior will be observed. The work is funded by the NSF. The anticipated start date is flexible, late August 2026 is preferred . The appointment will be for one year with options for yearly renewal based on performance and funding availability. Prior experience with high temperature hydrothermal single crystal growth and x-ray diffraction characterization is required. The successful candidate should have proven ability to use high temperature hydrothermal reaction methods to grow and characterize single crystals. This requires the skills to perform reactions in solvents at temperatures between 500-700˚C and pressures exceeding 200kPa. The successful candidate must be able to characterize these compounds using single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction as well as assist in collection and oversee magnetic data.
