Motor Vehicle Operator

The Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO) operates one or more types of patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses and other types of transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations, and airports. MVOs drive predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs while reading installation maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. They provide friendly, polite, and courteous service while enforcing passenger safety and seatbelt use. Vehicles are drive over roads and streets through various types of traffic and possible weather conditions. Vehicles range from gasoline, diesel or electric powered vehicles with gross vehicle weight of up to and including 26,000 lbs. Duties of the positions include, but are not limited to:

• Abides by rules, laws, and traffic regulations pertaining to state laws.
• Use multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer in and out of vehicles for assigned trips.
• Loads and unloads patients, medical supplies.
• Operation of stretcher van, 1-ton wheelchair van, small and large passenger van, dual use vehicles, and other vehicles as needed to transport patients.
• Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires.
• Maintain records and document actions, such as inspection checklist/forms and accident/incident reports.
• Displays courteous and respectful behavior to all customers.
• Responsible for the safety of all passengers with various physical and mental health conditions.
• Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
