Accountant 2 Position

Do you want to take on financial work that supports important health and human service facilities across the state? As an Accountant 2 with the Department of Human Services, Bureau of Financial Operations, you will learn detailed cost reporting methods that guide major funding decisions. This position helps you expand your knowledge of accounting systems and federal reporting requirements. You will contribute to clear, reliable financial information used to support vital programs.

This position supports the development and review of cost reports used to fund state-operated facilities and programs. It focuses on gathering financial data, analyzing expenditures, and preparing accurate reports that meet federal and state requirements. As an Accountant 2, you will perform the following duties:

• Cost Reporting: Prepare, update, and review cost apportionment reports for multiple facilities
• Data Analysis: Examine expenditures and financial statements to verify accuracy and compliance
• System Updates: Maintain spreadsheets, reporting tools, and building utilization data
• Facility Support: Provide guidance to facility accountants regarding cost reporting rules and allowable costs
• Federal Claims: Assist in developing reports and documentation needed for federal financial participation
• Financial Tracking: Monitor bank activity, reconcile statements, and post monthly accounting information

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as an Accountant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
• Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
