Assistant Coach - Collegiate Athlete & Youth Sports Development
UFIT
Job Description
Job Description
Job description:
Location: Los Angeles County school sites
WE ARE LOOKING FOR HIGH-CALIBER COACHES
UFIT is not looking for someone who simply wants to supervise children during sports.
We are building a team of high-level athletes, coaches, and mentors who understand competitive sports and can bring that standard to the next generation.
We strongly encourage applications from:
- Current or former NCAA Division I (D1) athletes
- Current or former NCAA Division II (D2) athletes
- NCAA Division III, NAIA, and JUCO athletes
- Former collegiate athletes and competitive coaches
- Coaches with experience in basketball, football, cheer/dance, soccer, volleyball, track & field, baseball, softball, strength & conditioning, and multi-sport development
- Kinesiology, physical education, sports management, exercise science, and related college students or graduates
If you competed at a high level and want to use your experience to develop young athletes, we want to hear from you.
ABOUT UFIT
UFIT provides school-based physical education, sports development, competitive athletics, and youth fitness programming throughout Los Angeles County.
Our goal goes beyond teaching students how to play a sport.
We use sports to expose students to higher levels of competition, college opportunities, mentorship, discipline, and athletic development.
Through our College to Sports initiative , UFIT works to create pathways connecting young students with:
- College athletic programs
- College campuses
- Collegiate sports experiences
- Summer sports camps
- Student-athlete mentors
- Competitive sports opportunities
Our coaches are an important part of creating that bridge.
THE ROLE
As a UFIT Assistant Coach, you will work alongside a Head Coach to deliver structured sports and physical education programming at elementary and middle school sites.
You will help students develop:
- Athletic fundamentals
- Sport-specific skills
- Coordination and movement
- Confidence
- Sportsmanship
- Discipline
- Competitive mindset
- Teamwork
- Understanding of what it takes to become a student-athlete
We want coaches who can connect with kids while maintaining a high athletic standard.
You should be able to walk into a gym, field, playground, or school campus and confidently help organize, demonstrate, teach, motivate, and engage students.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Assist in leading structured youth sports and physical education sessions
- Demonstrate athletic drills, exercises, and sport-specific skills
- Teach proper fundamentals and movement techniques
- Support basketball, soccer, volleyball, football, track, fitness, and other sports programming based on assignment
- Help identify and develop students' athletic abilities
- Encourage students to challenge themselves and progress
- Create a positive but competitive sports environment
- Mentor students through your own athletic knowledge and experience
- Help students understand sportsmanship, accountability, teamwork, and discipline
- Assist the Head Coach with practices, games, competitions, and special events
- Set up and break down sports equipment
- Maintain active student supervision and safety
- Support positive behavior management
- Track attendance and required program information
- Document program activity using UFIT Motion
- Follow UFIT curriculum, coaching standards, and school-site procedures
- Report injuries, incidents, or student concerns immediately
UFIT coaches are also part of a technology-driven approach to youth sports development.
Coaches use UFIT Motion , our sports and student-development platform, to help document program participation, assessments, skill development, student engagement, incidents, and program outcomes.
WHO WE WANT
Our strongest candidates will have competitive athletic experience and the ability to translate that experience into meaningful coaching for children.
Highly Desired
- NCAA Division I or Division II athletic experience
- Former collegiate student-athlete
- Current college student-athlete
- Collegiate coaching experience
- High-level high school or club coaching experience
- Competitive sports background
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students
- Kinesiology or Exercise Science background
- Physical Education experience
- Youth Sports Coaching experience
- Athletic Training experience
- Strength and Conditioning experience
WHAT MATTERS JUST AS MUCH AS YOUR ATHLETIC BACKGROUND
Playing at a high level does not automatically make someone a great UFIT coach.
We are looking for people who are:
Dependable. Coachable. Professional. Engaging. Athletic. Positive. Accountable.
You must be able to:
- Get students excited about participating
- Explain skills in a way children understand
- Demonstrate rather than simply give instructions
- Accept direction from the Head Coach
- Work as part of a coaching team
- Maintain professional boundaries
- Show up consistently and on time
- Represent UFIT professionally at schools
- Understand that working with children requires patience as well as competitive knowledge
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Sports, coaching, fitness, athletic, recreation, or youth-development experience
- Strong communication skills
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work at school sites throughout your assigned area
- Ability to pass required background screening
- Ability to complete Live Scan (candidate is responsible for the cost of their required Live Scan) and TB clearance requirements
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain certification as required
- Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for UFIT Motion and work-related documentation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This is an active coaching position.
You must be able to:
- Run, walk, bend, squat, reach, and remain active during programming
- Demonstrate exercises and sports movements
- Participate in drills when appropriate
- Set up and move sports equipment
- Work indoors and outdoors
- Lift and carry approximately 30 pounds
SCHEDULE
UFIT programs operate primarily during the school-day with additional opportunities connected to sports programs, camps, tournaments, and special events.
Schedules vary by school assignment.
Assistant Coaches receive up to 30 minutes of authorized paid preparation and cleanup time per assigned shift.
WHY COACH WITH UFIT?
This is an opportunity to do more than coach another recreational sports program.
You will have an opportunity to:
- Introduce young students to competitive athletics
- Help students see college athletics as something they can pursue
- Use your collegiate athletic experience to mentor the next generation
- Work within a growing sports and education organization
- Gain experience with sports-development technology through UFIT Motion
- Participate in school-based athletic programming
- Support college exposure and College to Sports opportunities
- Develop as a youth sports professional
WE WANT THE COACHES STUDENTS REMEMBER
Many children never have access to a collegiate athlete or high-level coach.
UFIT wants to change that.
If you played NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, JUCO, competitive club, or high-level high school athletics and believe the lessons you learned through sports can help develop the next generation, we want you on our coaching team.
