Assistant Professor, Student Flourishing Librarian We are now accepting applications for a qualified Assistant Professor, Student Flourishing Librarian at Belmont University. Employment Type Faculty Internal Job Category Non‑Tenure Track (Faculty); Full-Time Department Library Services Hours 37.5 Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Student Flourishing Librarian (Assistant Professor) designs and delivers innovative library instruction and learning experiences that support student success, belonging, and academic engagement. This role partners closely with faculty to integrate information literacy and research skills into the BELL Core curriculum, including First Year Seminar and First Year Writing, and develops scalable, multimodal learning resources for general education students. The Student Flourishing Librarian plays a key role in supporting first‑year, transfer, and undeclared students through instruction, outreach, and advising, while contributing to a collaborative library faculty team. Primary Position Responsibilities Coordinate Bunch Library's BELL Core (general education program), including First Year Seminar and First Year Writing, and oversee the development of multimodal curriculum and learning outcomes assessment. Develop and implement library instruction and outreach programs tailored to first‑year and transfer students, ensuring access to resources and foundational research skills. Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with stakeholders in the general education supporting student success, including the GPS Office, Student Success and Flourishing, and Bridges to Belmont. Provide in‑person and virtual research assistance, basic reference questions, and facilitate workshops that build confidence in research and academic success strategies. Lead outreach efforts to prospective and first‑year students and create initiatives that integrate academic and life‑success support, promoting a sense of community and engagement among various student populations. Serve as liaison to English and Communications departments, providing integrated instruction and collection development. Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach. Participate in departmental and university committee work. Engage in scholarly activity and professional development. Advise undeclared students in course selection. Participate in a local church and the community. Required Qualifications Form diverse leaders of character; Equip people to solve the world’s complex problems through teaching, research and service; Be radical champions for helping people and communities flourish. Foundational knowledge of information literacy concepts, research practices, and ethical use of information in undergraduate and general education contexts. Knowledge of instructional design, pedagogy, and assessment principles for effective information literacy instruction. Understanding of student development and strategies that support first‑year, transfer, and undeclared students. Knowledge of academic library instruction, liaison work, faculty collaboration, and scholarly engagement within a university setting. Knowledge of emerging technologies in academic libraries and especially related to library instruction. Knowledge of current trends in academic reference service. Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity. Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students. Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software. Ability to learn relevant sections of Banner.Web, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading. Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators, and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and integrate instructional technologies to support learning and engagement. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Required Education ALA‑accredited Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science. Required Experience 1–3 years of experience using academic library research tools and supporting scholarly research; experience working in a higher education environment with faculty and students; experience providing information literacy instruction or research support in general education or discipline‑specific contexts. The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University. Belmont University participates in E‑Verify.
