Staff Counselor Position Title: Staff Counselor Location: Boone, NC Department: Counseling Center & Psychological Services Position Number: 001221 Type of Position Full Time — Staff/Non-Faculty Application Requirements Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field Eligibility for appropriate licensure in North Carolina (e.g., LCMHCA or LCSWA) Obtain licensure within one month of the start date and maintain it for the duration of the appointment Preferred Qualifications Experience in a university counseling center with a student affairs perspective Demonstrated interest, skill, and experience in one of the following areas: Providing clinical services and outreach programming to student populations who may be less likely to seek counseling Using a variety of methods for engaging students to support their mental health, such as innovative outreach and development of self‑help resources Committed to a proactive student development perspective involving an active relationship with the campus community; demonstrated skills and interest in working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities; team‑oriented and collaborative with students, colleagues, and university staff; and broad generalist clinical skills in assessing and intervening with a wide range of disorders, concerns, and degrees of pathology Essential Duties and Responsibilities Short‑term individual and couples therapy Group therapy Psychological assessment Crisis intervention Consultation Outreach and psychoeducational workshops (sometimes after hours) Case management as needed Liaison/consultant relationships with university partners Rotating after‑hours emergency/crisis on‑call responsibilities as back‑up to ProtoCall Administrative duties and roles based on interest/experience and the needs of the Counseling Center Appointment Details Work Schedule/Hours: Mon‑Fri, 8:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M. Number of Hours Per Week: 40 Number of Months Per Year: 12 Visa Sponsorship VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
