Senior Project Manager

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager – Industrial & Manufacturing to oversee complex construction and capital improvement projects throughout the Southeast region.

This position will manage projects ranging from large-scale industrial construction and heavy renovations to interior buildouts, MEP upgrades, manufacturing facility improvements, and new construction. The Senior Project Manager will be responsible for leading projects from initial design and planning through construction, commissioning, closeout, and turnover.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial or manufacturing construction, exceptional client-facing skills, and the ability to work effectively with general contractors, architects, engineers, facility teams, and other project stakeholders. Owner's representative experience is highly preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Execution

• Manage complex industrial, manufacturing, renovation, and new construction projects from design through completion.
• Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, including planning, design, budgeting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
• Manage project scope, schedule, cost, quality, risks, and deliverables.
• Review and monitor construction schedules to ensure project milestones and completion dates are achieved.
• Coordinate with general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and internal project teams.
• Provide oversight of field activities and identify potential schedule, cost, quality, or construction concerns.
• Review RFIs, submittals, change orders, proposals, schedules, and other project documentation.
• Ensure construction activities align with project drawings, specifications, owner requirements, and established project objectives.
• Support both MEP-related projects and manufacturing/process-related improvements.
• Oversee projects involving heavy renovations, infrastructure improvements, interior construction, and new facility development.
• Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, identify potential issues, and verify that project requirements are being met.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Serve as a primary point of contact for project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop strong relationships with clients and maintain a high level of professionalism and responsiveness.
• Provide a white-glove level of service through proactive communication, organization, and problem-solving.
• Communicate project progress, risks, schedule impacts, budget concerns, and key decisions to stakeholders.
• Coordinate with facilities, engineering, procurement, operations, manufacturing, and construction teams.
• Lead or participate in project meetings, construction coordination meetings, schedule reviews, and stakeholder presentations.
• Work effectively with multiple internal and external teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Construction Oversight

• Maintain a strong onsite presence and demonstrate an understanding of active construction environments.
• Work directly with general contractors and construction teams to understand project requirements, scheduling, sequencing, and field conditions.
• Monitor contractor performance and assist with resolving field issues as they arise.
• Review construction progress against project schedules and established milestones.
• Ensure work is performed in accordance with quality, safety, and project standards.
• Identify project risks early and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Support site logistics, shutdown coordination, construction sequencing, and operational impacts when required.

Budgeting, Scheduling & Documentation

• Develop, monitor, and maintain project budgets and schedules.
• Track project costs, forecasts, invoices, commitments, change orders, and financial risks.
• Maintain organized and accurate project documentation.
• Prepare project status reports, dashboards, meeting minutes, action logs, risk registers, and executive-level updates.
• Monitor project schedules and identify potential delays or critical-path issues.
• Escalate significant project risks, schedule concerns, or financial issues to appropriate stakeholders.

Project Closeout & Turnover

• Manage project commissioning, punch list activities, closeout, and turnover.
• Coordinate final inspections and ensure outstanding project items are resolved.
• Verify completion and delivery of required project documentation.
• Support operational transition and handoff to facility or manufacturing teams.
• Capture lessons learned and identify opportunities to improve future project execution.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
• Approximately 8–12 years of construction or project management experience.
• Strong experience managing industrial, manufacturing, heavy commercial, or large-scale construction projects.
• Experience managing projects from design and planning through construction and completion.
• Strong understanding of general contracting, construction sequencing, scheduling, and field operations.
• Experience working with MEP systems and infrastructure-related construction projects.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
• Demonstrated experience managing project scope, budget, schedule, quality, and risk.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently throughout Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP certification strongly preferred.
• Master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• Owner's representative experience.
• Previous experience working for or closely with a general contractor.
• Experience with large-scale renovations, new construction, and manufacturing facility projects.
• Experience within aerospace, automotive, heavy manufacturing, logistics, distribution, or similar industrial environments.
• Knowledge of commissioning, startup, and operational turnover processes.
• Experience with project management and construction software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or Bluebeam.
• Experience managing multiple projects across different locations.
• Background in construction management, process improvement, or change management.
