Controller

Our client is seeking a Controller to manage the Accounting team and oversee the day-to-day general accounting, treasury, payroll, and financial reporting functions for the company. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data while implementing and maintaining accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting standards.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCulture, Leadership & GovernanceDeliver excellent guest service to internal and external customers in alignment with the company’s mission, culture, and values.Model professional, ethical, and respectful interactions that exemplify the Culture of Excellence.Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, procedures, and internal controls.Lead, coach, and develop the Accounting Team through scheduling, delegation, performance management, and professional development.Approve timesheets, assign projects, and ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.Accounting Operations & Financial ManagementManage and oversee daily accounting operations, including:Accounts Payable and Accounts ReceivableCash receipts and treasury functionsGeneral ledger and journal entriesWeekly vendor paymentsMaintain and strengthen accounting controls; review and update policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.Analyze and record inventory and cost of goods sold.Manage capital projects, fixed assets, and Right-of-Use (ROU) assets, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and required journal entries.Prepare and review account reconciliations and month-end close documentation.Payroll, Tax & ComplianceProcess bi-weekly payroll, special payroll runs, and coordinate quarterly and annual tax filings with payroll vendors.Reconcile insurance billing and complete annual workers’ compensation audits.Report and remit required taxes, including sales tax and personal property tax.Prepare and file required census and compliance reports.Audit, Reporting & Financial StatementsCoordinate and execute annual Financial and General Liability audits in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer.Ensure audits are completed accurately, cleanly, and on schedule.Prepare and review financial analyses supporting month-end and year-end close.Coordinate preparation, generation, and distribution of monthly and annual financial statements.Serve as primary point of contact for leadership inquiries related to financial statements.Ensure all reporting deadlines are met consistently.Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic SupportPartner with the Chief Financial Officer on:Annual budgets for the Accounting TeamOrganizational budgeting and forecasting activitiesManage Accounting-related projects and expenses to budget throughout the year.Provide financial insight and analysis to support organizational decision-making.Treasury, Banking & SystemsMonitor and resolve banking and credit card processing issues.Serve as primary liaison with credit card processors; analyze processor statements and manage chargebacks.Coordinate implementation of new accounting systems, controls, and technologies as needed.Support cross-functional integrations with payroll, HRIS, POS, and budgeting systems.General ResponsibilitiesTroubleshoot cash recyclers at all locations.Perform Manager-on-Duty (MOD) responsibilities as required.Perform other duties as assigned by management.QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field required.Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience required.Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.CPA, CMA, or other professional accounting certification preferred.Knowledge & SkillsThorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).Strong expertise in financial reporting, general ledger structure, payroll, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.Advanced analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Proven leadership ability with experience motivating and developing accounting professionals.Strong written and verbal communication skills for executive and team-level interactions.Ability to read and interpret financial, operational, and regulatory documents.Professional, engaging demeanor with guests, partners, and vendors.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.Technical SkillsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).Strongly preferred experience with:Great Plains (Dynamics)Management ReporterExperience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, Point-of-Sale systems, and budgeting software (e.g., Planning Maestro) preferred.
