Job Summary

Operating Room Open Heart Registered Nurse specializing in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) services. The role supports complex cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and endoscopic procedures in a high-acuity surgical environment. The position requires strong procedural knowledge, surgical scrub capabilities, and experience supporting adult and geriatric patients.

Job Details

• Schedule: Five 8-hour day shifts per week, 6:15 AM–2:45 PM, totaling 40 hours per week; call coverage is required 1–2 nights per week and every fifth weekend.
• Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse with an active Illinois license in hand or an active application in process; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) and General Operating Room experience; teaching hospital experience; Level II trauma experience; experience with cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and endoscopic procedures; experience with aortic aneurysm repair, adult atrial septal defect repair, coronary artery bypass graft, femoral cannulation, intra-aortic balloon pump, left ventricular assist device, MAZE procedure, mitral valve replacement, pericardial window, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), cardiovascular surgery scrubbing, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, arteriovenous fistula repair, atherectomy, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral-popliteal bypass graft, vascular surgery scrubbing, vein stripping, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, lobe resection, mediastinoscopy, thoracotomy, Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS), thoracic surgery scrubbing, bronchoscopy, EGD, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement or exchange, endoscopic surgery scrubbing, and Whipple procedures; proficiency in laser safety, specimen handling and labeling, and Universal Protocol time-out procedures.
• Preferred Qualifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification; three years of solid Cardiovascular Operating Room, trauma, or major operating room experience; Level I trauma experience.
• Additional Information: The surgical service supports approximately 10 patients daily across four operating rooms. The patient population includes adults and geriatric patients, with cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and endoscopic procedures performed.
