Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an ITS/Traffic Engineering Intern – Summer 2027 to join our Tampa, FL office.

Your role

• Support the ITS/Traffic Engineering team with transportation design, plan production, calculations, and project documentation.
• Assist with traffic signalization, ITS, signing, pavement marking, and related transportation design tasks.
• Utilize computer software such as OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil 3D to support drawings and CADD production.
• Review field notes, as-builts, and existing conditions information to support design development.
• Participate in field reviews when applicable.
• Participate in project coordination meetings, and team discussions.
• Support administrative and engineering tasks as assigned.

About you

• EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required if accepted into a Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field.
• EDUCATION: Must have completed 60 hours towards a Civil or Electrical engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2027).
• SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Basic computer skills required to enter data into spreadsheets, forms and/or databases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Math skills to perform simple calculations and willingness to learn technical design workflows.
  • Interest in traffic engineering, ITS, and transportation design.
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer and Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work from the Tampa, FL office during the internship period.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $25 - $31 hourly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
