Associate Attorney - Immigration

Company Description The Immigration Law Firm (Confidential) focuses on winning complex and high‑stakes immigration cases. The firm represents immigrants and their families in deportation defense, family‑based immigration, immigration and criminal fraud waivers, Adam Walsh Act defense, appeals, asylum, and citizenship matters. Role Description This is a full‑time, on‑site Immigration Defense Associate Attorney role based in San Jose, CA. The attorney will manage a caseload of removal defense, family‑based immigration, waivers, asylum, and related matters from intake through final resolution. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include: Conducting legal research Drafting briefs and motions Preparing applications and supporting evidence Appearing before immigration courts and USCIS. Other duties as assigned. The role involves meeting with clients and their families, developing case strategies, explaining legal options, and maintaining clear, timely communication throughout the process. The attorney will also collaborate with senior attorneys and support staff, participate in case reviews, and stay current on changes in immigration law, regulations, and relevant case law. Qualifications Strong foundation in Law and Immigration Law, with the ability to analyze complex statutes, regulations, and case law and apply them to individual client matters. Experience or coursework in Labor and Employment Law is beneficial, particularly where immigration issues intersect with workplace or employment‑based concerns. Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to clients, including explaining risks, options, and likely outcomes in an accessible manner. Excellent Research skills, including legal research, fact investigation, and evidence development to support arguments in court and agency proceedings. Effective Negotiation skills for resolving matters with government counsel, opposing parties, and agencies where appropriate. Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state (California bar strongly preferred or willingness to obtain). Prior experience in immigration law, removal defense, or related public interest practice is strongly preferred. Exceptional written and oral advocacy skills, including brief writing, motion practice, and courtroom presentation. High level of professionalism, cultural humility, and the ability to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and in emotionally challenging situations. Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
