Highway Maintenance Specialist, Night, Broom Crew - Denver Metro (CDL Training Provided)

Highway Maintenance Specialist Location: Denver, CO. This position requires you to obtain a Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or B within 120 days of hire. CDOT will provide training and pay for required physical and drug tests. Responsibilities Plowing snow and clearing roadways of debris including rock, mud, and deceased animals. Operating heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractor mowers, and other machinery. Mowing grass and weeds along highway corridors. Shoveling gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt; digging ditches. Installing and repairing guardrails, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and roadway lighting. Filling potholes and repairing roadway cracks; installing pavement markings/striping. Setting out signs and cones for traffic control; stopping or slowing traffic in emergency situations. Maintaining equipment and performing minor repairs. Following safety guidance and wearing proper safety equipment. Work Environment Exposure to loud noise and chemical fumes. Use of ladders and scissor lifts up to 20 feet. Work near traffic, including high-speed traffic. Drive CDOT vehicles and respond to emergencies outside regular hours, including weekends and holidays. Operate in variable weather conditions and at elevations up to 12,000 feet. Minimum Qualifications At least 2 years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience. Must obtain CDL Permit within 30 days of hire and CDL Class A/B within 120 days. Pass pre‑employment screening, including drug test and DOT physical. Preferred Qualifications Strong commitment to safety and a desire to learn. Experience operating single and tandem axle dump trucks, loaders, bulldozers, and backhoes. Experience with hand tools and basic computer skills. Years of state service experience related to this position. Conditions of Employment On‑call and shift work with a rotating schedule. Required to work the 4‑day (10‑hour) Monday‑Thursday schedule during summer months. May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6–12 months. Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular hours and travel within 30 minutes of the work site. Maintained residential address to be reachable for emergency notification. Compensation and Benefits Annual salary: $65,934 (base $53,934 plus $12,000 housing stipend). Biweekly base pay: $2,074.39 (annual $53,934). Annualized hourly rate: $25.93, overtime rate $38.89/hour.
