*History Colorado - Reallocation for a Term-Limited Archaeologist*

Cultural Resource Stewardship Technician (CRST) Position Summary Full‑time, term position through 06/30/2031 within the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (OAHP). The CRST provides technical and administrative support to the Resource Stewardship Program (RS) at Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), monitoring state parks, conducting archaeological inventories, developing outreach materials, and advising on cultural resource management. Responsibilities Advanced Technical Support & Archaeological Monitoring Plan, schedule, and conduct complex monitoring visits across all 42 state parks. Determine and adapt field methodologies for qualitative and quantitative data collection, including photo monitoring points and spatial mapping. Develop and refine monitoring protocols, workflows, and data standards used by CPW staff and partner agencies. Complete comprehensive field reports detailing conditions, threats, and National/State Register eligibility, ensuring federal processes are followed. Record, update, and reconcile locational data into statewide GIS databases. Complex Management Advice & Resource Stewardship Planning Develop cultural resource chapters for Park Stewardship Plans and Park Management Plans. Conduct internal CPW reviews of trail and capital development projects per CPW Administrative Directive B‑304. Develop, update, and communicate comprehensive plans of action for artifacts and other resources, including curation and repository processes (STEPSS). Assess threats to significant resources and develop mitigation recommendations. Advise CPW‑RS and OAHP leadership on culturally sensitive stewardship decisions. Technical Outreach, Training & Partnership Development Develop instructional materials and provide training to park staff and volunteers. Provide technical archaeological support for engagement with tribal governments. Assist in developing cultural resource educational information and interpretive signage. Refine data standards and provide technical expertise to the RS team and other CPW partners. Qualifications Graduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or related field. At least one year of full‑time professional experience in archaeological research, administration, or management. At least four months of supervised field and analytic experience in general North American archaeology. Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion and to operate independently. Valid Colorado driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Experience in collections management, archaeological laboratory practices, cultural resource management, or historic preservation administration. Knowledge of repository best practices and standards for storage and inventory control. Field and laboratory experience in archaeology, collections, or related field. Competencies Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Microsoft Access, and GIS (Esri). Ability to follow policies and procedures on sensitive data. Capacity to coordinate, analyze, and interpret archaeological collections from all periods and cultures.
