Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Job Summary Our Clinician (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) works with the registered nurses and medical assistants to evaluate, plan and provide care for patients in consultation with and under direct supervision of the attending Physician. The ideal candidate for the NP/PA role maintains effective communication with patients, staff and physicians; provides patient care in a competent, professional and courteous manner; and keeps abreast of current research and incorporates relevant findings into specific areas of clinical practice. Core Functions Performs clinical procedures under direction of attending Physician and according to approved protocols. Performs a wide range of activities, which include but not limited to: assessment, history & physical, recommendations for patient plan of care. Monitors patient progress. Maintains patient medical records according to established standards. Maintains communication with the supervisory physician(s) and attending physician to review patient records and care plans on a routine basis. Ability to collaborate with attending physicians, facility staff members and other agencies as needed to coordinate optimal care and use of resources for the patient/family. Ability to work independently-Interacts as a team member with all levels of clinical staff. This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40 hours a week with some night and weekend hours. Key Performance Indicators Maintains a timely schedule; works to prevent extended patient wait times. Implements changes in clinical protocols as soon as informed. Maintains an up-to-date knowledge base on SDO’s, SOP’s, Protocols, etc. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Job Requirements Experience, Education & Certification: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing or Physician Assistant’s Program 2+ years outpatient experience as a NP or PA Unrestricted and valid license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Texas Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registrations IIIV for the purpose of writing prescriptions Current BLS certification Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations Active board certification appropriate to licensure is required Note: All offers of employment are contingent upon successful credentialing and approval through the THAP Credentialing Board Your previous work life and education ideally would include: 2+ years of experience in working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ and other marginalized populations Master's Degree in Nursing Working knowledge of Athena electronic medical record software Working knowledge of healthcare insurance preferred Bilingual: English and Spanish Knowledge Skills and Abilities Must have basic PC skills that include a combination of working in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA standards. Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer services and interpersonal communication skills; Cultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to work with diverse people groups. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills in English; Additional language abilities desirable. Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic classes, those in crises or resistant or negative toward organizations. Ability to apply time management practices to prioritize, schedule and complete work effectively to comply with mandated policies and deadlines. Ability to work on multiple tasks or parts of tasks simultaneously to ensure timely completion of work activities. Must be able to work productively with other departments and employees. Ability to work with professionals from various partners and organizations. Usually works forty (40) hours per week, some weekends may be required. Thrives in a team based environment. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize with strong time management skills. Exceptional follow through on tasks and assignments Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information orally and make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 12 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks, as well as inspect and analyze. Must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as the work is predominantly inside. FLSA / OVERTIME STATUS Exempt- \"Salaried\" Employee not eligible for overtime. Non-Exempt - \"Hourly\" Employee eligible for overtime. If eligible for overtime, Employee will be paid time and one-half for time worked over 40 hours per week. Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Category Category #1 Category 1 Job usually involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin, or tissue specimens, is possible. Category 2 Job may expose incumbent occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids, and non-intact skin or tissue specimens. Category 3 Job does not involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and non-intact skin or tissue specimens.
