Exchange Life is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce travel jewellery brands in the US. We sell collectible country charms for traveller's, with new products launching soon. Our content machine has generated over a quarter billion views across TikTok and Instagram.

This role is video, end to end. You'll concept and cut short-form video ads for paid media across TikTok, Reels, and Meta placements, where every edit is judged on what it does to hook rate, retention, and spend. You're not making brand films or organic filler. You're making the creative we put budget behind.

We're looking for an editor who can own their output and be creative within proven marketing fundamentals, not just execute tasks. This is not a gig; it's a long-term partnership. Many of our editors have been with us 2+ years, and the people who now set our creative direction started as editors here.

You'll work closely with our Content Lead and Marketing team. We're a small, high-output team that moves fast, communicates daily, and invests in the people who show up.

Where You'll Be in Six Months

Senior Performance Video Editor.

That's the next title, and it's within reach inside your first six months if your work earns it. At that level you have full creative autonomy: you own video concepts end to end, you decide which angles we test next instead of receiving briefs, your creatives are the ones we put real spend behind, and you start reviewing other editors' cuts and shaping how they work.

It's decided by performance, not time served. Move faster if your work moves faster.

Compensation & Earning Potential

• Base: $10–20 USD/hour depending on experience
• Performance bonuses: Uncapped, paid per winning creative. Every video that hits our performance thresholds or scales on paid ads pays out.
• Rate reviews: Revisited as you take on more, not on an annual calendar

Our top editors earn meaningfully more than their base because they produce winners consistently. That's the whole design: we'd rather pay a lot for creatives that work than a little for creatives that don't.

What Success Looks Like

After 3–6 months, a successful hire is consistently producing short-form video ads that scale on paid and perform organically, hitting 50%+ thumb-stop rates and 30%+ hold rates, and iterating on winning formats without needing direction from the marketing team. You'll be a trusted creative partner, not just an executor.

Core Responsibilities

1. Concept and edit short-form video ads for TikTok, Reels, and Meta, built around hook rate, retention, and watch time rather than aesthetics
2. Develop new video angles and hooks, then test them against our proven formats
3. Build AI-assisted video creative using current tools, and keep pace as those tools change
4. Review your past edits daily, identify what's working and what isn't, and improve without repeating mistakes
5. Work directly from paid performance data to decide what to cut next
6. Turn around content quickly and communicate proactively every day, with no check-ins required
7. Stay on top of TikTok and Instagram trends and apply them where they'll actually convert

Must-Haves

• A strong recent portfolio of short-form video edits, ideally including paid ad creative (20+ from the last few months)
• You can watch a winning video ad and break down exactly what made it work
• Hands-on experience across video formats: hook-led headline videos, talking heads, voiceovers, UGC-style edits, AI video
• Ability to read metrics (hook rate, retention, watch time, spend) and know what to change in the next cut
• Takes ownership, internalizes feedback, doesn't repeat the same mistake twice
• Highly skilled in CapCut Pro or a comparable editing tool
• Strong written and spoken English; able to work independently

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience cutting video ads for e-commerce or DTC brands
• Experience working directly against Meta or TikTok ad account data
• A track record of creatives that scaled on paid

• Your portfolio is mostly long-form, YouTube, or event/wedding content
• You can't point to a recent video ad and explain why it performed
• You want to make beautiful videos more than videos that sell
• You need a fixed schedule or close supervision to stay productive
• You're looking for a short-term project or side gig

Working Style

• Engagement: Independent contractor, paid in USD
• Location: 100% remote
• Hours: ~40 hrs/week, long-term role
• Schedule: Fully flexible. Work whenever you want, as long as you turn work around quickly and communicate daily (async). No timezone overlap required.
• Time off: Flexible PTO. Take the time you need, just coordinate with the team.
• Tools: CapCut Pro (or comparable), AI video tools, TikTok/Meta analytics
• Working style: No micromanagement
