Candidates can learn more about Peerless Steel’s products and capabilities at Role Description The Inventory Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Troy, MI, responsible for overseeing all aspects of inventory accuracy, availability, and optimization. This position monitors inventory levels, conducts regular cycle counts and audits, and reconciles variances to ensure reliable stock data across multiple product lines. The role coordinates with purchasing, sales, and warehouse teams to forecast demand, set reorder points, and minimize stockouts and excess inventory. The Inventory Manager also develops and maintains inventory control procedures, tracks key metrics, and prepares reports to support operational and financial decisions. In addition, this role works closely with internal stakeholders and customers to resolve inventory-related issues and support high service levels. Responsibilities Lead and oversee Inventory coordinator at each Peerless facility, while working alongside the Team in their daily effort Gain an extensive and highly detailed understanding of our inventory product needs, levels, and control systems. Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counting, root cause analysis and corrective actions Manage and oversee physical inventory counts and reconciliation at multiple locations on multiple dates per year Engage sales and other departments within the company (i.e., Manufacturing Warehouse, Sales, etc.,) Drive material flow improvements across receiving, warehouse and production interfaces Responsible for understanding and adhering to business operating procedures Any other activities, projects, etc., as determined by the VP of Operations Work with Receiving Dept to optimize receiving and racking processes Maintain inventory stored outside in a safe and organized manner Manage inside inventory to optimize location and maximize pan capacity Develop and manage processes to minimize material stored on the floor Conduct hand rack and bar rack audits to ensure clear material identification and eliminate over capacity Work with auditors and banks during year all inventory audits Develop and manage stock check processes at each location Develop and manage “scrap rules” for plate and bar products Working with Quality Manager to ensure adequate isolation and reconciliation of quarantined material Qualifications Previous experience working in a steel environment preferred Ability to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to safety rules, operating procedures, maintenance instructions and manuals Ability to work individually, as well as in a team setting Education Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or related field required Minimum of four (4) years of experience in supply chain, planning, materials, or similar function related to Planning and Inventory Control in a similar production environment (machining and assembly) Experience in using Business Intelligence tools such as Power BI Understanding of the application and concepts of Planning and Production Control fundamentals including MRP (SAP preferred), Inventory Management, Capacity Planning, Scheduling, and Lean Manufacturing Highly skilled in engaging teams to deliver results in a rapidly changing environment Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Proven experience managing shortages, allocations, and long lead-time materials Deep understanding of inventory control, planning, and demand management Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SM3, Oracle, Manex, or similar) Strong analytical capability with ability to interpret data and drive decisions Demonstrated leadership and team development experience Planning/Organizing - Prioritizes and plans work activities and uses time efficiently.
