Assistant Principal – Grayling Elementary School The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Principal in the educational leadership of the school. The role requires a vision of strong academic achievement for a diverse student population and involves providing leadership to staff and students, helping all students achieve the fullest academic and non‑academic benefits from the school’s programs, services, and offerings. Preferred Qualifications Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, Master’s Degree in School Administration or a related field, or be willing to enroll in a program to meet qualifications under state law. Demonstrated classroom teaching ability at any grade level – elementary/secondary. Experience supervising and evaluating staff. Experience and ability to develop, implement, and evaluate instructional curricula. Demonstrate knowledge of State Content Standards and Benchmarks, Literacy Essentials, PSAT, SAT, MSTEP/MME, NWEA, and the local board‑adopted curriculum. Knowledge of Student Information Systems (Skyward), classroom assessment, and Khan Academy. Ability to analyze assessment results and determine ways to improve instruction and student outcomes. Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership and support to strengthen the faculty and shape professional growth for all professional and support staff members. Provide a safe and healthy environment for students and staff. Assist with the hiring and retention of qualified staff. Align and implement National/State standards and assessments within the curriculum. Ensure that all students are prepared for M‑Step, NWEA, and other required testing (state and local), as well as adhere to all testing responsibilities and guidelines. Participate in and provide leadership to the School Improvement Team. Serve on the district improvement team, the school leadership team, the PBIS team, the student support team, and the multidisciplinary team, and attend monthly meetings. Serve on the Crisis Intervention Team/maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention certification. Work to see that the needs (enrichment, remediation, special education) of all students are being met, including disaggregating data, tracking student achievement, planning and implementing summer school, and other programs to support achievement. Plan and implement professional development opportunities for all staff members (certified and support staff). Coordinate New Teacher Orientation Training. Develop collaborative efforts between the school and the community. Encourage and develop family engagement in the educational process. Schedule and coordinate all emergency plans and drills. Respond to all student disciplinary referrals and develop effective student behavior/discipline plans. Supervise completion of all Ichat background checks. Work with staff to develop an annual building calendar and annual building schedules. Supervise maintenance and grounds of the building. Responsible for oversight of 504 meetings, as well as communicate 504 plans and safety plans to staff. Implement district attendance policy/weekly monitoring/truancy concerns. Coordinate all activities for the instructional paraprofessionals, including evaluation, monitoring of duties, scheduling and assignment of duties, and meeting with them regularly to ensure the quality of delivery. Maintain relationships with community agencies and/or service groups through attendance at meetings and coordinating councils.
