Postdoctoral Scholar – Bat Infectious Diseases – Department of Integrative Biology Position Overview Position title: Postdoc Employee – 3252. Salary: The UC postdoc salary scales set the minimum pay determined by experience level at appointment. The current minimum salary range for this position is $69,073 - $77,030. Salaries above the minimum may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. Percent time: 100%. Anticipated start: Summer 2026. Position Description The UC Berkeley Department of Integrative Biology studies biological phenomena at various levels of organization, ranging from molecules to organisms, populations, and ecosystems. As integrative biologists, we approach biological problems by incorporating information across various levels of organismal organization and guided by evolutionary principles. This position is in the Brook lab and focuses on transmission of potentially zoonotic infections among wild fruit bats in a Madagascar ecosystem. The Postdoctoral Scholar will primarily analyze existing data and prepare writing, aiming to complete at least two peer‑reviewed publications in the 2‑year time horizon. The Scholar may also engage in lab and field work in Madagascar to fill gaps in the scientific storyline. International field work is optional and not required. Datasets to be analyzed include: long‑term GPS telemetry data from two species of wild fruit bats to inform population viability analysis and/or metapopulation models of pathogen transmission, or microbial transcriptomics and metabolomics data to understand seasonal impacts on the bat microbiome and consequent viral infection status. Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application): PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrollment in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program. Additional qualifications (required at start): PhD (or equivalent international degree) by the start date. No more than three years of post‑degree research experience by start date. Preferred qualifications : Previous experience in both mathematical and statistical modeling of infectious diseases and/or population trajectories. Previous experience using R and Github.
