Job Title: Controls Engineer (Contract)

Location: Auburn Hills, MI

Time Type: Full Time / Contractor (White-Collar)

Position Overview:

Are you ready to grow with us? We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Controls Engineer to support, optimize, and improve our advanced roof system assembly lines in Auburn Hills. In this role, you will take true Ownership of the plant's control systems, ensuring maximum uptime, safety, and efficiency. You will work on cutting-edge automated equipment, troubleshoot complex PLC and robotics issues, and collaborate with a cross-functional team to drive continuous Progress.

Your Main Tasks and Responsibilities Are:

Act as the floor-level technical expert for troubleshooting, modifying, and programming PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens) for high-volume automated assembly equipment.

Support, teach, and optimize industrial robotic cells (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) and vision inspection systems (e.g., Keyence, Cognex) used for complex mechanical and electrical roof assembly.

Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic faults on the production line, drastically minimizing machine downtime.

Integrate error-proofing (poke-yoke) systems and torque control tools into existing automated lines to ensure OEM quality standards are met.

Collaborate closely with maintenance technicians, providing training and support to resolve recurring equipment faults through root-cause analysis.

What Do We Expect From You:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).

3+ years of experience as a Controls/Automation Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (Automotive Tier 1 assembly experience highly preferred).

Strong hands-on proficiency with PLC programming/troubleshooting (Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000 or TIA Portal).

Experience with automated assembly processes, including servo drives, VFDs, sensors, and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP).
