Job Description

Job Summary:
The Med/Surg Tele Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care within a 14-bed overflow unit supporting ED boarder patients. The role requires expertise in monitoring and managing various clinical needs, ensuring patient safety, and effectively communicating patient status.

Responsibilities:

• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including IV therapy, blood glucose testing, and medication administration via IM, SQ, NG Tube, or G Tube.
• Monitor and record vital signs, assess patient condition, and recognize changes in patient status, communicating updates promptly to RN or MD.
• Perform specialized tasks such as Foley catheter insertion, ear and eye drops, and mouth care.
• Assist with patient mobility, bathing, and personal hygiene, ensuring comfort and safety.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and infection control protocols, including use of masks, nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy.
• Facilitate patient admission, discharge, and transfer procedures, documenting accurately in EPIC.

Qualifications:

• Possess a valid NY state RN license and at least 1 year of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry experience.
• Demonstrate competency in phlebotomy and IV insertion, essential for all RNs.
• Proficient in EPIC electronic health records and charting systems.
• Able to work flexible scheduling, including 12-hour day shifts.
• Exhibit strong communication skills utilizing SBAR for patient hand-offs and updates.
