Director of Coupa Implementation & Accounts Payable Operations - four days in office

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Coupa Implementation & Accounts Payable Operations to lead the implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of the company's Procure-to-Pay (P2P) platform while overseeing Accounts Payable operations.

This individual will be responsible for driving the successful deployment and adoption of Coupa, ensuring seamless integration with existing financial systems, and establishing efficient, scalable processes across procurement, invoicing, payments, and expense management.

In addition to systems leadership, this role carries significant operational responsibility for Accounts Payable, including team leadership, internal controls, vendor management, payment processes, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on Coupa implementation experience with a strong background leading high-volume AP operations in a complex, multi-entity environment.

Key Responsibilities

Coupa Implementation & Systems Leadership

• Lead the end-to-end implementation of Coupa, including requirements gathering, process design, configuration, testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
• Own Coupa functionality and administration across Procure-to-Pay workflows, including procurement, purchase orders, supplier management, invoice processing, approvals, and payment processes.
• Partner with Finance, Procurement, IT, Treasury, and business stakeholders to align system capabilities with operational requirements.
• Oversee integrations between Coupa and the company's ERP and financial systems.
• Develop and implement system workflows, approval hierarchies, policies, and controls.
• Lead user acceptance testing, training, change management, and company-wide adoption.
• Identify opportunities to leverage automation and technology to improve efficiency, accuracy, and visibility.
• Serve as the internal subject matter expert for Coupa, managing enhancements, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimization.

Accounts Payable & Procure-to-Pay Operations

• Direct day-to-day Accounts Payable operations, ensuring accurate and timely invoice processing, vendor payments, employee expense reimbursements, and payment execution.
• Oversee the full Procure-to-Pay lifecycle, including vendor onboarding, purchase orders, invoice matching, approvals, disbursements, and reconciliations.
• Establish and maintain AP policies, procedures, service levels, and operational controls.
• Oversee vendor relationships, payment inquiries, escalations, and issue resolution.
• Manage corporate card programs and Travel & Expense processes.
• Ensure appropriate segregation of duties, fraud prevention, duplicate-payment controls, and compliance with company policies.
• Oversee AP accruals, reconciliations, and month-end close activities in partnership with Accounting.

Leadership & Process Improvement

• Lead, develop, and mentor the Accounts Payable and P2P organization, including internal and outsourced/offshore resources as applicable.
• Establish performance metrics, productivity standards, and KPIs to measure operational effectiveness.
• Drive standardization and process improvements across business units and entities.
• Collaborate with senior Finance leadership to establish priorities, manage projects, and support broader financial transformation initiatives.
• Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 12+ years of progressive experience in Accounts Payable, Accounting Operations, or Procure-to-Pay.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing AP or P2P teams.
• Demonstrated experience leading a full-cycle Coupa implementation, including configuration, workflows, testing, deployment, and optimization.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of Coupa administration and functionality.
• Extensive experience managing complex, high-volume AP operations.
• Experience with procurement processes, supplier management, invoice automation, and payment workflows.
• Strong understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, fraud prevention, and financial compliance.
• Experience with ERP integrations and financial systems.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage organizational change.
• Excellent communication, project management, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with global or multi-entity AP operations.
• Experience managing offshore or outsourced AP teams.
• Knowledge of Travel & Expense platforms such as Concur or Navan.
• Experience with corporate card programs and expense management.
• Familiarity with NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or Workday Financials.
• Experience with process automation and AI-enabled financial solutions.

Ideal Candidate

A hands-on AP and finance operations leader who has successfully implemented and administered Coupa while maintaining responsibility for a substantial Accounts Payable organization. This person understands both the technology and the underlying accounting processes and can lead the system transformation without losing sight of day-to-day operational performance.
