Position Details

• Position: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Cardiothoracic/CVOR)
• Facility: University Hospital, Madison, WI
• Shift: Days – 3×12-hour shifts (06:40 AM–07:10 PM) with one potential 09:40 AM–10:10 PM shift every two weeks

Schedule and Requirements

• 3×12-hour day/evening shifts.
• One late shift (09:40 AM–10:10 PM) every other week may be required.
• Weekday and weekend call required.
• Weekend call approximately every 4th–5th weekend (Friday through Monday morning).
• Floating required as needed.
• Travelers must have 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years .
• Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted.
• Telemetry pass/fail exam required before start.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience within the last 3 years.
• Strong Cardiothoracic/CVOR experience required.
• Experience with Level I Trauma Center or similar high-volume hospital .
• Must have experience with complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries, including:
  • ECMO
  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
  • Ascending aortic procedures
  • LVAD
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Da Vinci Xi robotic thoracic procedures
  • Lobectomy
  • Mitral valve surgery
  • VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery)
  • Lung resection
• Epic charting experience required.

Required Certifications

• RN License (Wisconsin or Compact License)
• BLS (AHA only)

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate perioperative care with the multidisciplinary surgical team.
• Prepare and manage patients undergoing complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries.
• Maintain a sterile operating room environment and ensure patient safety.
• Coordinate efficient OR workflow and case turnover.
• Provide perioperative nursing care based on patient complexity.
• Float to other appropriate surgical areas as needed.
• Successfully complete required telemetry competency testing before assignment.

• 17–21 week assignment accepted.
• Charting System: Epic.
• Patient Ratio: 1:1.
• Magnet-designated teaching hospital and Wisconsin's #1 ranked hospital.
• References should not be included with submission.
• Travelers must pass a telemetry exam (up to 3 attempts allowed under facility policy).
• Parking permit required for onsite parking; alternative transportation options available.
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required.
• Flu Vaccine: Required (medical/religious exemptions accepted).
