Certified Medical AssistantThis Certified Medical Assistant role supports a busy student health clinic by performing a blend of clinical and administrative duties that ensure a smooth, patient-centered experience. You will work closely with providers and nursing staff, spending much of your day on your feet, assisting with patient intake, vital signs, appointment scheduling, and electronic medical record documentation while delivering friendly, efficient service to a diverse student population.Perform a variety of administrative and patient care support duties within a student health clinic.Assist administrative, medical, and nursing staff to ensure the clinic operates smoothly and efficiently.Work closely with providers and remain on your feet for the majority of the workday while supporting patient care.Register patients and manage appointment check-in and check-out using electronic medical record systems.Enter and verify health insurance information and collect payments as necessary.Confirm patient eligibility for services prior to visits and procedures.Obtain and document patient vital signs accurately and efficiently.Schedule appointments for new and returning student patients, ensuring timely access to care.Provide information and coordination support to other clinics and ancillary services as needed.Offer routine information about student health services and direct patients to appropriate areas and locations.Deliver high-quality customer service, maintaining a professional and welcoming environment for students.Collaborate with current staff and shadow team members during the initial onboarding period to learn workflows and expectations.Hit the ground running on day one, progressively assuming full responsibility for all outlined duties within the first two weeks.Essential SkillsAt least 3+ years of experience working as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).Demonstrated medical assisting experience in a fast-paced clinical or ambulatory care setting.Certification as a medical assistant by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA.Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students, clinicians, and administrative staff.Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative care environment.Motivated to learn new processes and systems, with the ability to become a quick study in clinic workflows.Customer service mindset, with a focus on patient-centered care and clear, respectful communication.Proficiency and comfort working with electronic medical record systems for registration, documentation, and scheduling.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience providing care and support in a student health, primary care, or outpatient clinic setting.Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.Comfort working with a diverse, engaged, and highly motivated student population.Interest in preventive care and holistic wellness rather than high-acuity clinical environments.Appreciation for team-based care models involving clinicians, nurses, mental health providers, and administrative staff.Desire to grow professionally within an academic health setting and learn from campus wellness and public health initiatives.Ability to build positive relationships with patients and colleagues and contribute to a supportive, inclusive culture.Reliability and readiness to meet consistent weekday schedule requirements.Openness to a contract role with the opportunity to apply and interview for permanent vacancies based on performance.Work EnvironmentThis position is 100% onsite in a fast-paced student health clinic that emphasizes preventive care, holistic wellness, and manageable caseloads. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering predictable hours and a balanced environment compared with many hospital settings. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, nurses, mental health providers, and administrative staff in a collaborative, team-based care model where consultants are treated as true partners. The clinic uses electronic medical record systems for registration, documentation, and scheduling, and you will spend much of your day on your feet interacting directly with students and staff. Staff are considered non-essential for weather-related closures; if the university closes due to weather, the clinic does not open, and employees may use vacation time for those days. Parking is available in a nearby lot for a monthly fee, with an approximate 5–7 minute walk to the clinic. The dress code allows flexibility: you may wear scrub tops and bottoms or a clinic-branded T-shirt with scrub pants in any color, with holiday or seasonal attire permitted when indicated by management. The clinic typically observes a week off around winter break, from Christmas Eve until the day after New Year's Day, during which there are generally three additional closed days that are not weekends or holidays; staff use accrued vacation time for these days and may have unpaid time off if sufficient vacation hours are not available. During your first week, you are expected to begin performing core responsibilities immediately, with current employees shadowing and guiding you for approximately two weeks to support a smooth transition. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
