Vivarium Technician

Job Title Vivarium Technician Location San Diego - BioLegend Job Summary The Vivarium Technician at BioLegend is responsible for the daily care of research animals, including feeding, cage washing, maintaining a clean environment, and monitoring overall animal health. The role also handles animal requests, maintains breeding colonies, and works independently and in a team under established safety guidelines. The working schedule is Saturday through Wednesday. Essential Functions Daily monitoring of animal health and vivarium environmental conditions Supply appropriate food and water for animals housed in the vivarium Clean and provide animal housing and associated materials/equipment within assigned animal rooms Transfer animals from dirty to clean caging, providing appropriate feed, water, and bedding Clean cages, accessories, and water bottles via cage washer or by hand Perform ATP tests on cages, accessories, and other items, quantitatively evaluating vivarium cleanliness Assist with receipt and stocking of ordered items Wean mice Properly dispose of waste Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of animal cages and support spaces, ensuring a clean, odor‑free, low‑stress environment for animal welfare Establish and maintain appropriate communication, teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience Animal husbandry experience Some college coursework or associate’s degree Good verbal and written communication skills Authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis for any employer Work Environment & Physical Demands Lab environment with occasional data entry on a computer; occasional exposure to a warehouse environment. Regular use of hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. Salary Base salary range for this full‑time position is $18.75 – $21.50 per hour. Pay is determined within this range and may be adjusted for internal equity, location, experience, and other factors.
